In just the last year college football has changed and the next 20 plus years I see incredible stability, especially at the very top.
Anyone who knows me knows that I am brutally honest and don’t play favorites. I’ll bash UGA in a second. Having said that, I think everyone agrees that Georgia and Alabama are now the two elite teams and programs across the college football landscape. Alabama is Alabama and Kirby will be at Georgia for at least the next 20 years.
My question, and many others also ask this, is what other teams can join the elite category?
Ohio State? Can Clemson get back starting in 2022? Texas A&M? Florida? Oregon? Michigan?
Other team(s) that might step up?

It was definitely a stupid post. They one one national championship and now they are elite with bama. We have more 10 win seasons in a row than they do, but they are elite? They aren’t going to win it next season so why call yourself elite? When bama moves to the east that’s game over for uga. They will never make another sec championship. Brag that you won the championship. Don’t be dumb about it though.

Honest question. How could UGA football program, players and coaches mess up this currently good position and how long will it take? My take is off-campus extracurricular activities will soon materialize based on UGA's track record. See you in playoffs next year if UGA makes it.

Wait a minute- we miss the CFB playoff for the first time and we are disqualified as an elite program? What planet are you living on? Don't assume Ga. has arrived for good after one great year. We will see about that. Ala. is showing cracks in the ### also. It won't be easy for anybody in the immediate future to climb to the top because of the volatility of the current state of college football.

They’ve proven they can win it all over and over. Clemson was close but I believe we’ve taken a step back but if we can get back to our winning phase than we may be able to join that status. Next closest would be Georgia. I think you’ll be the one to claim “elite” status next but you’ve got to win another Championship within a year or two before you’re there.
Ohio St and Texas A&M and maybe LSU would be the next options with Oklahoma right behind them.

Three years ago we won 50% more games. Then there was 40% more two years ago. Thirty teams won 10 or more games this year and if we go by Dbag Dorian's philosophy that they won their bowl game by forfeit then you can make it 31. From the first team in over 100 years to go 15-0 to 1 out of 31. I call that a step back.

Kirby became HC at UGA in time for the 2016 season. UGA has a tremendous recruiting base, no doubt.
Kirby's UGA teams made the CFP twice and the finals twice (2017 season and 2021 season). Won it all for 2021 season. That's really really good.
How many times has OH State been in CFP, and how many national championships has OH State won?
(Hint: They've been much better than UGA.)
LSU ... been to CFP once and won it all. LSU is one step behind UGA.
Oklahoma ... been to CFP 4 times. Nearly beat (but didn't pull it off) UGA in 2017. Lost each time in first round.
Clemson ... you know where we are relative to UGA. (Don't embarrass yourself making this comparison.)

There are a few schools I would list as having a great chance to win it every year. Feel free to criticize as this is of my opinion. No particular order I would say Bama, Clemson, Ga and OSU. I do not put Oklahoma in there because they do not do anything once they make it. Clemson needs a playoff victory though. The last 2 left a mark and we did not look near as competitive especially on the LOS.

I say in 4 years there will be about 8-10 programs that will be elite and stay there...so i say
BAMA, UGA, TEX, A&M, Arkansas, Mich, OSU, SoCal, ND maybe a few other that will have the $$ to compete.
Recruiting has changed, unless you can afford the 5*/4*...you can't play......The teams that can, will start stacking them, like UGA/BAMA/A&M....i hate to say it but in 5 years, Clemson will be loaded with 3* players and the $$$$ schools will buy all the 5*/4* that they want and the landscape will change..
I think Clemson stay a top 20/15 program.....but In a few years, I do not see them getting back to the top unless we get into the $$$$$ game with recruits, and I don't think Clemson's alumni Base has the $$$ like many other programs have.

I think almost every college football pundit subscribes to what I said. When UGA was not there I admitted it and did not care.
As I said, I do think several teams, CLEMSON INCLUDED, can make a jump.
Just because I am a UGA alum and fan, that does not mean my posts are intended to “flame” or whatever.
This is my favorite board and I pull for Clemson and will continue.
I simply asked an honest question.

not having Metchie and losing Williams was a really big hit for "Bama in the Natty. Metchie on the short quick slants and crosses with yards after catch killed UGA in the SEC CG... no credible deep threat after Williams went out... have to give credit to the UGA D line putting pressure on Young but thats where Metchie was the kryptonite...

Technically I see only one elite team, Alabama .Even Dabo said "To be the best you have to beat the best".
And year in and year out they are the "best". This year it came down to two teams, UGA and Alabama. Alabama won the conference, and UGA turned the tables and won the National Championship .Next year it should be the same two schools in the SEC because there is no one in the East to compete with Georgia. Alabama should win the West and they will play for the SEC Title, and one spot in the CFP .Now maybe UGA gets back in ,but they can't slip like Clemson did( see next sentence).
Now on to the next level: Clemson, UGA and Ohio State fill out the top 4.
Clemson fell out this year ,but only because of offensive issues. Georgia took over that spot. Ohio State fell to Michigan .Not likely to happen again. So you could see us playing any of the 4 top teams, but only if Clemson gets it's offense in gear.
Now,.as far as other go, Cincinnati was probably a 1 year wonder but only because they beat Notre Dame. Notre Dame could get back in, but with no conference championship they can't afford even 1 loss.
Texas A&M beat Bama but also lost to lower ranked teams .Florida still has to get past UGA. Oregon is too far west to even think about until they go 12-0.Michigan,nah they won't beat OSU twice in a row.
I don't see any other team as a serious contender for next year.

HONEST QUESTION. How do consider yourself an elite program when you could only score 10 and win by a TD against us in a down year? You beat Bama by more than that in the CFP championship. Do you honestly think that the fans, Dabo and the Football program will be content with the offense that was offered in 2021? Slow down on the Kool-Aid, We were blowing out B1G10 champs 31-0 when you were still losing to Vandy and GT. Maybe if you win another you'll learn to act like you belong in the "Elites".

My take. There were only two Elite “teams” in 2021. There were and are still 5 Elite “programs” in college football. Don’t confuse the two. And GA is the new comer. You just joined in 2021.

If Clemson doesn’t get back right in 2022 we might be heading for the door as elite program but it’ll take a few down seasons to take us off that list.

Clemson is no longer “Elite” because we dropped 3 games this year, in the midst of a 2 natty , 4 natty appearance run in the past 6 years

Again, I do think certain teams are entrenched now at the top. And, certain teams HAVE SHOWN they can move up and time is the great detective to see what transpires.
Very possible that Georgia and Clemson might meet in the 2022 season!

Yes GA is an elite program “NOW”. You’ve been consistently good the last 5 years. This year you have climbed the mountain and have joined the elite.
The problem we have with is you are acting like Clemson fell off with one bad season and GA has been this mega power. GA wasn’t particularly great in 2020. 11-2 of 2020 doesn’t look a whole lot better than 10-3 for us. Now we’ll see over the next 5 years who is still Elite. But for now it’s

Unfortunately, you are correct. UGA and Bama sit at the top now, today. Not because of the # of conference championships or resume over the last 10 years but because of the amount of talent amassed year in and year out and the final piece missing from their program, the ability to finally win a NC. There nucleus is in place to continue challenging Alabama in the SEC. There is a high probability that one of those two teams will be in the NC game over the next 2-3 years facing each other, CLEMSON, OSU, etc.
Our team took a hit this past year result wise and are now confronted with an overhaul of coaching changes and took a tough lick in recruiting. Prior to 2021 Clemson was the ELITE. In one year a lot has changed. I believe we will once again reach that status, In DABO we trust. As of today we have been replaced.

But what happens if you catch something? That is certainly a possibility in the trailer park, or hanging around your coot buddies and the dumpsters. Before you say that you are not buddies with the coots, they think you are right now, living vicariously through your Championship, even if they still have to cling to the Tide a little bit since they are the conference Champions. That and they need something to wash a little of the grime away.
Anyhow if you catch something that prevents you lifting weights and puts you on a level field say with the Wofford Terrier down the road, where does that put you. If your reign as big dog on the block only lasts a year, were you really elite?

Given the results of the last CFP, and GA is the current Champ (despite the denials or calling it something else), I would agree there are two elite teams. I do not think the other two should be considered as such.
We were a QB away from the CFP and should be back on track next year.

You see, we Clemson folks were full of braggadocio and pomp over both our two titles, particularly, the last in which we romped Bama. That led to a misplaced belief that we were unstoppable. Then, we got a whack from LSU, followed by Ohio State, and this year have had a rude awakening even with a 10-3 record.
I congratulated my Georgia friends on your victory over Bama, but even they were cautious about the future, preferring to err on the side of caution.
Right now, today, yes, Bama and Georgia are the two most elite nationally. A lot can happen between now and next season. Thus, I prefer to bide my time with a huge amount of circumspection, hoping we can get our program vamped up to playoff status. So, do a whole lot of other folks, including a boatload of coaches, like Nick Saban and one Mr. Dabo Swinney, who, thus far, has proven quite adept at producing winning records and success in the playoffs.
Good luck on your season next year. Better luck to us Clemson folks! lol

You won one Natty, LSU won a Natty with Joe Burrow and fell apart the next year... that does not make you an elite program... come back in 5 years with a few more rings then you can claim "elite"... Bama is in a league all by themselves... the ROY bus is real... LAST YEAR... which matters little at this point you had a phenomenal defense... your D won the day against us and against Bama in the CFP game... not so much in the SEC CG...
To your question, who will compete for CFP Playoff spots in the next 2-3 years assuming that is the question...

Texas A&M is coming. You combine oil money and the NIL with the shadiest coach in college football, you will win. Go take a look at who has this years top recruiting class. You see, if this NIL crap is not put under restrictions. Teams like Clemson will not sniff another Natty. Why you say. Well, Clemson resides in Anderson and Pickens country South Carolina. We don’t have oil money like Texas, Texas A&M or Chokelahoma. Hollywood money like California. Coke (drug money)money like South Beach has in Miami or fan bases as large as teams like OcryO St and Notre Lame. Georgia will be fine and in that group because Georgia is one of the top three / four states in football recruits. I think BAMA fades when Nick hangs up his whistle. The transfer portal and NIL has separated the haves from the have nots. Just my two cents.

Was LSU an elite program the a couple of years ago when they won the title and Alabama not because they failed to make the playoff?
We have 1 definite elite program, Alabama, and two that might be, Georgia and Clemson. We will not know for a year or two, if Georgia has become an elite program or if they just had an elite team. We will not know for a year or two, if Clemson is still an elite program or just had a bad year. Time will tell.

The Texas schools are sleeping giants, Ohio State, Southern Cal, Oregon. Anyplace they have access to a lot of money. It remains to be seen how well Clemson can play the NIL game or how mush exactly it will matter.

First of all, Congratulation on the Natty. Georgia played lights out in the fourth quarter. Bennett shocked me too. Hats off to him.
To answer your question about Elite teams, I have Alabama, Clemson, UGA, and Ohio State. As a matter of record, those are my preseason four making the CFP. As far as elite moving forward, the rules have changed. Texas A&M and Texas are going to compile the best teams that money can buy. To me the real story is going to be how long before the two Texas schools flip the ###### and take over the SEC and the CFP. I know that Texas is not supposed to be in the conference until 2025 but, I believe that will change.
