I know how feels. Even though I think soccer is a dumb sport, I coached a U8 rec team a handful of years ago trying to score some points with one of the moms. My team absolutely dominated. Let me say that again….DOMINATED. I can’t remember if anyone scored on us. I had a couple kids who were terrible and I would stick them out there with the stars and told them to stay out of the way. Whenever an opposing coach or parent accused me of running up the score, I would sub out the ###### kid with another stud and just smile.
An opposing coach, let’s call her Stephanie since that was her name, accused me of recruiting older kids. She wasn’t smart enough to know that suburban kids that went to school with her kids sucked. I pulled my team from immigrant adult pickup games in the hood. There were always a few kids playing on a spare field. We paid their fees and required shin guards and it was on. I think I only had two or three kids who could speak English so the documentation for ages was sketchy at best. Stephanie and the other coaches finally got their way and they moved half of my team up to U10. My best player was U12 by the end of the season.
I quit coaching after that. It was way too political for me. If I were Jimbo, I’d put a turd in Saban’s mailbox every weekend for a month.
