That sounds really good. We don’t usually have a big dinner on Sundays. Had a ham, egg, and cheese sandwich earlier and that will be it for tonight.

Can you t-male your oyster stew recipe to me? My mom used to make it when I was a kid but I haven’t had it in years because Mrs. Rhettfla doesn’t eat oysters. Now that I’m home more I might get a chance to make it sometime when she is out of town (like this week). I remember Mom’s being milk, butter, salt, pepper, hot sauce and oysters and I think that was about it? TIA.

Well that's about it minus the hot sauce in the stew. For me, the hot sauce is the deal when you're eating steamed oysters off the grill. And the way I steam them on the grill is, I take several red bricks and space them out in the bottom of the charcoal pan, and using a charcoal chimney to light the charcoal, pour the charcoal when ready around the bricks, fill a 4 inch pan with hot water and set on top of the bricks, let the charcoal pan, bricks, and pan of water down to the bottom of the grill, line your grill rack up with oysters, close lid and let steam to your liking. Unless you have a really large steamer, that is the best to steam oysters, and they will have a little of the grill taste also. IMO, there is no better way to steam oysters!!! But it is best to have a grill that you can lower or raise your charcoal all the way to the bottom or to the very top....

PS, I forgot, it's best to use the brick with the 3 holes in them to help keep the heat even in the grill.

Love drinking good buttermilk. If you’re going to give it a try make sure you get whole milk buttermilk, not the skim buttermilk which is really only good for making biscuits. Huge difference in flavor. Ingles sells a whole buttermilk in the Sealtest label. Goid stuff.

Growing up from a small kid, I drank more buttermilk than I ever had in regular white Vitamin D milk... Buttermilk and iron skillet cornbread was a feast when I was growing up!!!

You’re correct about Campbells. I read where all of Campbells soups and other soups were unhealthy. They specifically mention Campbells Noodle Soup. I think it’s the noodles and the temperature it’s cooked at.

Thank you all for sharing some great recipes.

The only knock I ever heard on Campbell’s Chicken Noodle soup was the salt content. It does have a lot of salt.

Born in Texas and raised in SC. We always had oyster stew once a week during oyster season. I hated it. There was not enough ketchup in the world for me to choke it down. I always got spanked for not eating my supper on oyster stew night. My mother would always remind me of the starving kids in China. One time I recommended she box the stew up and send it to the Chinese kids. I got 2 spankings that night. The fact that I eat grits should let you know I am not a ****** yankee.

That’s the menu here. 8 quarts of delicious chili that brings a little sweat to the forehead. Put my first bowl out over a thin layer of Fritos. Probably put it on a baked tater tomorrow night.

I love oysters in cooked, in a stew, raw, roasted, smoked in cocktails with cheese etc…my favorite is to have them roasted. MyfavOrange what is you recipe for oysters stew ?? Do you like Salmon Stew ?? I could eat both every week. I may make one or the other this week.

My mother in law loved oyster stew but this is the funny part show would not eat the oysters. She always gave them to me. I told her about my plans to develop oyster in a carton like milk but with out the oysters. Basically oyster flavored milk. She had some really quirky taste for food. She did not like chicken but would eat chicken stew. Who would not like fried or grilled chicken or a good steak from the grill. Should would eat hash or a cheeseburger but no other meat. Her food choices really crazy. Should have had family investigated before getting married. lol 😂

My mother in law passed away December 23 / 2022. She passed in her sleep very peacefully. She is now in God’s house. Both my father in law and my mother in law were really good to me even though my MlL’s eating habits drove me crazy at times. Rest in Peace Grandmom. Honestly was very blessed to have had such great in laws. I loved you both very much !
