HEY JOE21 i'M FALLING IN LOVE WITH YOUR STORY!

May 4, 2017, 4:42 PM

Listen, what I'm about to ask is absolutely insane. But I know that a lot of us TNetters are wondering.... Are your stories truly yours or are you a "ghostwriter" of sorts writing for someone you know? Either way, I have much respect! Whoever is Joe21, is an incredible individual deserving of the utmost respect. That is a fact!

But here is why I am struggling... You are a 96 year old, WW2 vet, who deserves to have folks bringing him supper on a platter everyday. Yet you carry us stories like we deserve something. You post in a forum that many 30 year olds would struggle to keep up with. I can imagine that after all you've been through, you suffer no fools. Yet you suffer us, fairly regularly. What gives sir? I have to be honest and say, that what seems too good to be true, often is. I respect the stories but I love a great man. And no, that's not intended to be inappropriate!

We are always looking for someone to believe in. Is it too much to ask for some some explanation as to how you find the reason to give a dang about posting on TNet and maybe if you have them, some awesome friggin pictures? I want to believe in and I look forward to your every post. But I'm wondering....

Is the Joe21 that posts in here, who he says he is? And if he is, why aren't us Tiger fans showing up at his door every freaking day to soak in some of that knowledge and experience. I for one need to know.

First, I don't play games, I leave that for others. And. NO, I'm not a ghost writer. The story I posted today was credited to anther company mate who is now deceased. I asked his daughter for permission to use his version of the story and she graciously granted my request.

I'm no hero, I was just another GI who received an invitation from Uncle Sam in 1942.The real heroes are some of my best buddies who gave their all.

If you want to check me out, let me know and I'll invite you to my home for a beer or glass of wine.
If you attend the baseball games let me know and I'll let you know where I sit. I walk without the aid of a cane, still dive a car, active in several organizations and volunteer at a food pantry. I say this, not in a sense of bragging, but as a sense of deep gratitude for still being able to do these things.

It wasn't until my grandchildren asked me to write down memories of my childhood and service during WW2 and the Koran War that I began writing my stories. Never having maintained a diary, I have had to rely strictly on memory. Sometimes the memory is blank but when I think of one event, it sometimes strikes a cord and another detail is added. I have gone back to many of my stories and did some editing. There are some things I will never tell or write. I prefer to write about those things that I can now laugh at that was not a laughing matter when they occurred. Another problem is finding words that adequately describe the event. The thing I try to always remember, because it is the most important element, be sure it's the truth.

It doesn't bother me that some posters do not like or possibly object to my stories. I post these stories because they were a part of my life and a period in history that relates to your parents and/or grandparents.

Well, there you have it in 2.39 nut shells. I can cut the cord anytime and cease this nonsense.

I love the stories.

Thank you for sharing.

Please dont.

Understand that it is just the very unlikely hood that someone of your age is still around and has the mental capacity to do all what you do. It was just a little skepticism. There have been a couple of sources that have verified your legitimacy. Thank you for serving and I would love to be able to find some time to sit down and talk with you. Yours truly was one of the greatest generations... and it would be an honor just to sit with you at a baseball game. I have not been to many baseball games but may try to get to one just to... if nothing else, shake your hand.

Joe21, I had an uncle I never knew graduate from Clemson in 43. He died as a German POW in March of 45. I'd love to hear more about him if you knew him. His name is GL Wise. You will find him recognized at the scroll of honor. Thanks.

I have no reason to doubt Joe21's validity

May 5, 2017, 10:05 AM [ in reply to Re: HEY JOE21 i'M FALLING IN LOVE WITH YOUR STORY! ]

I have an aunt who is 95, drives, takes care of herself unassisted, helps us can beans and corn, cooks every day. Joe21's secret is he has stayed active.

I wonder if he may have known my Dad(Clyde Wright, Class of 1941). After Dad retired in 1987, he began making a verbal record of his time at Clemson and after(graduation and through 1945 and eight ETO/ATO campaigns in the 9th Infantry Division). He provided a copy of the 7 1/2 hours done on cassette to the National D-Day Museum in New Orleans.

Keep 'em coming. Each segment is history.

I've got no backbone when it comes to asking a legend about his credentials!

May 4, 2017, 5:20 PM

I know everything will work out in the end. When Joe shows up, he will pat me on the head, tell me he understands, and offer a legendary tale about how he dealt with cowardice in his day. I just know this will happen and I will look like the worlds biggest idiot.

But I honestly am curious. The man sounds like a hero, that deserves much more than just a click of a mouse for an up vote. If he is a writer then an up vote will do. But if this is the actual hero, then we owe him some cookouts, and some tailgates, and some tickets!

May 5, 2017, 6:54 PM

I can say that Joe is 100% a Clemson man (with multiple degrees), WW2 veteran, probably has more stories than time to tell.

I got to meet him and his daughter, in person the year Tajh Boyd declared for the NFL, at tailgate before a baseball game. I didn't know him nor any of the others at the tailgate beyond an internet forum, but found myself pulling up a chair next to him, drinking a Dr. Pepper, and eating some BBQ with Mr. Joe. Heck, even introduced my parents and Aunt to him as they showed up to join me for the baseball game later in the day.

Mr. Joe is a man that has lived and others that know him much better than my one day of sharing BBQ with him, have always and continue to place him in extremely high regards.
