Summary of Murdaugh’s defense today

5

Feb 21, 2023, 8:36 PM

A couple of tiny drug dealing midgets crawled into the kennels and shot the place up

And because they were so tiny and quiet Alex Murdaugh couldn’t hear them or see them while he was taking 2 minute nap

I typed on another thread, but why would he kill hos son. You see the need get money from insurance but not getting that from son.

Because his son was charged in the BUI case where a friend of his was killed.

The girl’s family was suing Alex and Maggie Murdaugh. They supposedly didn’t have the money, and Alex was worried that his financial records would be subpoenaed. That would lead to his theft from others being uncovered, likely ending his legal career.

By killing Maggie and Paul, he would get sympathy from the community, the lawsuit over the boating incident would go away, Alex’s financial crimes wouldn’t be discovered, and he could keep practicing law.

That’s the prosecution’s theory. The dots connect. The problem with that is that there is no murder weapon, and no blood evidence showing that Alex was there. It’s purely circumstantial, and that allows for reasonable doubt. Plus, the fact that investigators didn’t search Alex’s house or test his clothes right after the murders allows the defense to question other aspects of the case.

I also think the gruesome nature of the crime scene works in the defense’s favor. It’s going to be hard to convince 12 jurors that someone could do that to people they love.

I feel that the jury will be split. If I was on the jury, I would keep reminding the others that Alex has never produced the blue shirt, pants, and shoes that he was wearing in the video. The one where he was tinkering with the tree. The housekeeper testified that she has not seen those clothes again after that day.

Following the boating accident, it’s known the Murdaugh’s threatened each of the friends involved so none of them would tell the truth about Paul driving it drunk, and killing that girl.

I understand the prosecution’s theory, but like you said it’s only circumstantial until evidence is provided of Alex doing it himself. But the death of Maggie and Paul likely won’t provide a sufficient amount of sympathy from the community to overlook his financial behavior. He stole ~$190,000 from Chris Wilson (not sure if correct name).

That said, killing Paul and Maggie is pointless and likely wouldn’t erase everything anyway. I truly don’t believe Alex Murdaugh did this, but there are many things about the Murdaugh’s from the past that would lead the general public to believe something like this could happen in that family. But there is just zero evidence, and I believe it’s because Alex didn’t do it.

Also, given Paul and the rest of his family were basically socially cancelled by everybody in the area and received bullying, I think it makes sense that somebody involved in the boating accident, or somebody that knew the people involved, could have seeked revenge on Paul. Maggie might have just been in the wrong spot at the wrong time, or she might have also been a target and Alex just wasn’t there. I think the situation of someone looking to kill any Murdaugh’s present at their residence that night is likely. Paul and Maggie just happened to be the only ones there, and Alex was not, leading him to be a suspect as the 1st one to the scene.

The only question is who did do this then? Sounds like...

Feb 22, 2023, 6:49 AM

They are trying to blame a short cartel member from Mexico. Come on now....

If that defense is going to work, they better show how murdaugh is tied into the Cartel.

Will take odds - they’ll find him guilty.

Why would the lawsuit go away if Maggie

and Paul were out of the picture ?

It doesn't take but one to not convict and I think he will get that one. Hope not though because the man is as corrupt as they come. Is he a killer ? The jury will have to sort that out.

I listened to a little bit of it on Court Tv yesterday and they were talking about the trajectory of the bullets.

Only God and himself knows who shot his wife and son but you can draw your own conclusions based on his history of deceit.

He lied about being at his home when this occurred which is a huge red flag if I were on the jury, but I do think the defense did well yesterday in trying to persuade the jurors that Murdaugh in a standing position conflicts with the path in which the bullets entered the bodies. Paul’s head was blown off so I’m not sure how they know much about the path of that bullet.

I also can not wrap my head around killing your family but it does happen every day and his finances and fraud probably led him to doing the unthinkable.

He was going to prison anyways and probably Paul as well so I just do not understand the point of taking them out unless it was just to be sure Buster would be taken care of financially.

Is the defense saying it’s not him on the video ?

He’s going to jail for life even if found not guilty.

His financial crimes will see to that but I will say SLED totally butchered this case.

He won’t get life for financial crimes. I had a financial thief put away in GA for stealing from me. He stole millions altogether from dozens of people and has about 20 felony convictions now with more cases pending. He got 20 years in GA state prison to serve three and is getting out on parole after two……

Dang I will be pissed if he gets off that easy scamming innocent people.

He may end of with the death penalty, not from the state, but executed by one of those that got scammed.
