his momma loves it here. I'll still honestly be surprised if he chooses us simply due to the 3 extremely talented guys ahead of him, but Clemson is definitely family, stranger things have happened.
If he comes, which RB redshirts? You have to plan on redshirting one

I'd guess if anyone of Pace, Shipley, Mafah or ETN, it would be ETN.

Our running backs and DJ totaled 416 carries last year.

I expect us to be a more consistent running team next year. I don't think we will run DJ nearly as much as the nearly 100 carries he had this year. He's not good it and he doesn't seem committed to it.
If we run the ball 450 times next year, and DJ runs it about 50 times, that leaves 400 carries for four running backs. Two are big guys and (hopefully) two are smaller quicker backs. At least one is injury prone, which is not surprising given the position and his all out running style.
I think you need four backs with better balance in the number of carries per each. Especially given the relative lack of drop off in the overall talent of each.
Pace will be in his third year and Shipley and Mafah will be in their second. Pro after 3 years removed from high school and the life expectancy of running backs suggests that the seas will part just in time for Trevor Etienne to find stardom and a lucrative NFL contract after 3 years.

I can't name one place where 4 talented RB's split carries. You also want some separation in the classes

We went from 6 running back to, hopefully, 4.
Just pointing out the math.

Cade needs to get a lot stronger if we are going to run him like that too. He is a great athlete, but that hit in HS where he hurt his shoulder wasn't even that heavy compared to what he will be dealing with.

Hopefully, with a college strength training program and a bulk building beer and cigarette diet, he can quickly add weight once he arrives in January.
Like Bama and their QB, let him run when the play breaks down, but don't run him or DJ on a lot of designed runs.

Neither DW or TL were cut physically as freshmen

TL was knocked out against Syracuse but fine the rest of the year. DW broke a finger on a stiff arm then bad a non-contact knee injury against Tech.
There's risk regardless. But I'm pretty sure we want to get back to doing what we did so well

to be improving in the read option and RPO. If he doesn't progress there, and Klubnick is as advertised, Klubnick will be the guy. That's what we want to do, just couldn't this year as DJ struggled with both

Maybe 4 games will be enough. Also, maybe there will be an injury?

Our RB room is similar now to when Travis came as a freshman, and he was expected to be 4th on the depth chart and likely redshirt. He didn't come until the summer, but a few great runs in practice quickly changed the picture.
If Trevor is anything like Travis, he'll find his way on the field in 2022. The RB competition didn't intimidate Travis and hopefully it won't scare Trevor either.
We should always have 5 RBs and 5 QBs on scholarship for depth purposes.

Who else is in that last picture? I can’t tell. Trevor looks thick though. He would probably be a load to take down just like his brother. Our running back room could be the envy of the whole country… just gotta train up the OL to free them.
Go Tigers!
