So...Watson lied to us then?

Read it and decided for yourself. http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/ncfrecruiting/southeast/post/_/id/19872/coach-deshaun-watson-did-visit-auburn
We JUST GOT THROUGH interview Deshaun's position coach that travels with him on these visits, and both him and Watson told us that he DID NOT FOR A FACT go on the visit to Auburn. Not that I'm worried about them being a legitimate contender for him because we all know they're not. I'm concerned about the implications of what this could mean for Watson. Most notably, the fact that this means he intentionally and knowingly LIED to us. And so did his coach. All we've heard about this kid is his good-two shoes, squeaky clean image. Goes to class, tells the truth, gets good grades, and plays the game the right way. Well then, why is he suddenly "covering up" his actions in secret?
You know that really uneasy feeling you get when something fishy is going on, and you just can't put your finger on it but you know it's isn't right? Yeah, I'm beginning to get it..

Watson is a young kid, and he made a mistake. Nobody here lied when they were 17, right? And I'm sure we all felt as much pressure as this kid is feeling at such a young age.
I trust our coaches to sort things out and do what's best for the team. Deshaun seems apologetic and still a good match for Clemson. Cut the kid some slack, it's not like he broke any laws or pissed in public.

where in a month or so he says that he wants to open up his recruitment. Then in another month he will say it was just never the same with Clemson after this episode. Then in another month he will be blaming it on Dabo's policiy and saying it was too rigid. Then in December when it is too late for us to recruit other quarterbacks, he will make it known that he's not sure where he will go, but he regrets that it won't be Clemson.
I've seen this movie before. ANd poor Dabo is on the spot. If he cuts Watson loose it looks like he is to rigid in his no visit policy and it discourages future recruits. If he doesn't cut Watson loose, he gets played right up until anuary.

Players want to come here, we will get the best and we will coach them to be champions.

Yet...you replied...in roughly the same amount of time it would have taken you to formulate a legitimate contribution to the board.
But that would be too hard, wouldn't it? It's better to just be condescending without adding any real value.

As for Montravius, to me, it was clear Dabo was surprised by his decision to choose Auburn. Montravius was never committed to us, just various places projecting him here and Auburn. It went down to the wire with him...

We will now see if Dabo has a double standard on these visits. My guess is he does which is why he should have never had the no other visits policy in the first place.

What I find funny
May 28, 2013, 10:53 PM
|
|
Is you assuming his policy has ever been public knowledge. When players commit I'm sure they have a discussion with the coach as to what they means ans whether they can or will ever take other visits. I'm just guessing here, but it only makes sense that those situations will vary from player to player and will be agreed between them.
To assume you are (or should be) privy to that information is silly.

Wasn't there a 1500 word article on here a month or so ago about the recruiting process, with direct quotes from Dabo? All-in? The poker chip? The whole shebang and the parameters governing such?
I thought the policy WAS public knowledge. Correct me here if I'm wrong.

Has a cat got a climbing gear?? Of course, Dabo has a double standard for 4 and 5 star recruits. They can verbally commit and go to other schools just for the "educational travel". Dabo's expostulations are meant for the press, for the big money supporters, and for the diehard fools who believe every word that comes out of his mouth.

Logic and reason coupled with a few facts.
May 29, 2013, 7:52 AM

Coaches can't publically divulge any information about a recruit. The only way we (the public) can get any inside information is from the recruit himself.
You really think it's more likely that a teenager who has lied to a coaching staff and a school is gonna admit that his offer was pulled and it's his fault because he lied? It's logical to believe the likely case is that he just slithers off to another school and wears his lack of character for the rest of his life.
You asked for a source. The only possible source is Nkemdechie who did made the false commit. Would you believe anything the lying bestard said?

Boy, am I glad you don't have anything to do with the football team. How do you feel about us stealing away recruits at the last minute of recruiting? All is fair in love and war. It just proves once again, that the rules on recruiting need to be drastically changed to even the field between recruits and recruiting. If you commit to a school, you should be able to sign right then - PERIOD!

it's tough when you get early commitments from highly rated players because other schools won't give up. that is just the way it is. but right now, Clemson can't give up its tether to Deshaun. he likes Clemson and the coaches, so if he gets some distance it will be easier for him to look elsewhere.

He's only 17. Most kids his age are dabbling in booze and drugs and trying to stay out of jail.
So he is curious about Auburn which happens to be a great school. If this is his only mistake in life than he's going to be fine. If he truly felt regret for going to Auburn than Clemson is in great shape to land DW.
So just get off your high horse and let DW do what he wants. It's his life, he can go to any school he pleases. My guess is 99% chance he goes to Clemson.

Hes a kid for starters so a lack of judgement is to be expected. I mean come on. He lied because he realized what he was doing wrong, and I'm sure felt ashamed of himself for it. He loves Clemson and our coaching staff and I'm sure once he realized the trust he was breaking with them just wanted it to all go away. We are all guilty of the same thing. This incident will in the end make his commitment to us even stronger because he now realizes the shame he felt by going back on his word and lying.

It baffles me that recruits could think that in this day in age they could lie about where they were. With smartphones, social media, gps availability, etc... when you're in the spotlight, everyone knows where you are.
Although, he is just a teenager and lying to get out of "trouble" seems about right.

My questions regarding the situation and simple honesty....
May 29, 2013, 5:17 PM
|
|
From the earlier article I was confused why Watson's coach would say he repeatedly asked whether Deshaun was telling him the truth about not visiting Auburn and then state that if Watson was lying to him it would be the first time.
If a person has true faith in someone's answers, they shouldn't need to ask a point blank question more than once.
Is the coach a liar?
Is Watson a liar?
Is Watson surrounded by a posse of liars?

I'm certainly not going to be the one to tell kids certain truths that spoil their childhood innocence.
But, by the same measure, don't stand in front of me peeing on my shoes and tell me its raining.
If Watson has been known to lie, well then he's human and I can't fault him for that.
On the other hand, if Watson's coach can't trust him to shoot straight, then I have cause for concern.

I miss the days when I had no clue about recruiting. I miss them because today's full time coverage causes so many fans of the school I love to act like self righteous ###### who talk as though no one less than perfect is allowed to play football at Clemson. Worse, people get worked up over the whims of a high school age kid. People come on here and make statements about the character of a kid as if they sit in God's chair and do the judging for him. What if your life played out in the public's eye? I wasn't there. He apologized. In normal situations that is as much as can be hoped for. Not here. I won't pretend to know much about anything. What I do know is what is going on on this board regarding this kid is embarrassing. Just my two cents. Only the kid knows what he will do, and when he does it, life will go on.

should point that high powered sense of self righteousness at themselves and critique their own shortcomings.
With that said, I will say that Dabo has changed the football culture somewhat. He is a man of high integrity who brings a heavy emphasis on morals and encourages recruits to blossom both spiritually and virtuously. He doesn't seem to put on an act either, this is Dabo...this is his vision for Clemson University. Hopefully recruits will see more than just an opportunity to play football, but also an opportunity to become a genuine man. I have seen many recruits that appear to have big egos, prima donnas, and maybe an overall bad attitude attend Clemson and leave a completely different person. If anything, I think Clemson needs to try harder to bring Deshaun in so that he can grow under the wings of our coaching staff.

as a teenager then I'd have enough money today to cover all the boneheaded things I do as an adult.
