Please explain JD & Judah Davis' recruitment to me

May 28, 2014, 3:17 PM

They were listed last year and now they're listed again this year. Since I haven't seen them play how about a prognostication.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Accepted grey shirt offers last year

May 28, 2014, 3:18 PM

so they count towards this year's class. They were mistakenly counted twice I believe

Re: Please explain JD & Judah Davis' recruitment to me

Two extremes on this. Those who would never question anything Dabo does say these twins are the next Humphries, will surprise people despite not even starting on their high school team, and are young so they will mature into future stud LB's bc its in the blood. Don't count them out etc.

The other extreme considers this equivalent to an NCAA sanction by wasting two schollies, akin to nepotism. They don't see any way they contribute other than being thumpers or special team players (similar to what they would consider another wasted scholarship in Greenlee). They point to the players we could take if those scholarships were available and pound on their keyboards in the hope that someone will listen.

So the prognostication is either superstar gems or never seeing the field. Rivals has them at 5.2 which basically means Rivals 'experts' don't see the twins as D-1 caliber prospects. No other offers and not much production to go off of in high school.

Here's a hint...if you can't start in high school, then you

May 28, 2014, 3:47 PM

shouldnt be on a top 15 caliber team. They will serve as nothing more than tackling dummies on scholarship. this is just a big favor to Jeff Davis.

thanks for your prognosis phil steele. how many times have you "not" seen them play. only way to tell if it is just a favor will be 3 or 4 years from now.

And predictably there are the two opinions on the twins summed up by deroberts and the above poster. Awesomeness.

deroberts says trust the coaches--who are you to speak, you internet keyboard expert type guy. No one can know these kinds of things despite star rankings correlating with the NFL draft pretty remarkably.

Then you get the other side who knows they will amount to nothing.

No middle ground on this one it seems--you are either an 'all in' fan, a true fan who trusts the coaches and pumps sunshine or a dirty coot for not having faith in a pretty accomplished group of recruiting coaches. Polarizing.

iq, quality football players & leaders, you really can't have enough of those young men on your team. there's much, much more to a team dynamic than simply 4 quarters on saturday. crap, you can't question the pedigree.

just for kicks, scout does have them as 3* with one of the brothers rated.

who knows?

The best LB at Daniel last year was Solomon Brown

and he signed with Charleston Southern after being the Defensive MVP of the Shrine Bowl.

what was solomon's shortcomings? that's as good as he was

May 28, 2014, 6:05 PM

going to get, size, attitude, school or other?

i played with a lot of great hs players, doesn't mean they projected beyond hampden-sydney where they played.

has nothing to do with the davis twins or the 30ish D1 players solomon beat out for the shrine bowl honor.

the twins definitely look the part at around 6'2" and have filled out their frames well. They are smart, like to hit, and are determined to prove everyone wrong that they aren't just legacy offers but can play as well.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

May 28, 2014, 4:12 PM [ in reply to Re: Here's a hint...if you can't start in high school, then you ]

was pretty sure they did.

I believe they were also 16 when they graduated-- a year early-- the greyshirt really puts them back in the class they should be in --- would have been similar to the Hairston and Barry Richardson? situations as far as age when they first came to CU

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

largely politically motivated legacy signees based on their being the sons of former Clemson great and current staff member Jeff Davis. Clemson was their only Division 1 offer if not their only collegiate offer period which further adds to the speculation.

That said, Dabo and his staff are excellent recruiters and evaluators of talent, and they have absolutely earned and deserve the benefit of the doubt.

How old are you? Do you have any idea who Jeff Davis is? How can anyone who is actually a Clemson fan publicly complain about offering these kids a scholarship? We have to listen to all the slings and arrows about Dabo's coaching ability, but his recruiting is above reproach.

Playing under a scholarship is worth more than its dollar value. It's an honor. And how do you know Jeff Davis hasn't given the cost of their education ten-fold to the school of the years?

Well, that's a difference of opinion, not a fact, and it appears that the people pulling the strings agree with my assessment not yours. It's funny, you are one of the biggest complainers on here. You think Clemson should make moves to appease you as a fan just because. You whine and moan as though your voice has some value and should be heard. But what you keep saying is that the folks who actually contribute meaningfully to this University deserve nothing? I don't think Jeff Davis walks on water. And I don't think we have some great history of wasting legacy scholarships. So, essentially, voicing any opinion on this situation is p*ssing and moaning for no reason and only serves to tear down the children of one of our great players. Way to represent. I wish I knew why my ignore filter constantly gets turned off.
