Here are my top 3 replacements for both offensive/defensive cord.

Dec 5, 2021, 1:00 PM

I think If he goes outside Costal Carolina and Boston College would be huge gets.

If Bret Venables departs from Clemson, these are my choices to replace him (my opinion).

1st choice: Todd Bates, Clemson
2nd choice: Chad Staggs, Coastal Carolina
3rd choice: Phil Parker, Iowa

If Tony Elliot departs from Clemson, these are my choices to replace him: (my opinion).

1st choice: Brandon Streeter, Clemson
2nd choice: Jeff Grimes, Baylor
3rd choice: Frank Cignetti, Boston College

Our offense was so terrible hiring someone already in the program IMO would be a huge mistake. You need new blood and new ideas. A fire and urgency that we are lacking.

Totally agree!!!! Offense has been vanilla after coach Morris left

JIM KNOWLES would be awful. I just checked his recruiting history and he has never recruited ONE 4 star player in his life. Awful recruiter and almost 60 years old. Just no.

Re: mine would be Jim Knowles at DC

Dec 5, 2021, 1:29 PM

He's 56. He makes 800k. Green Bay supposedly interested in him. But, he's spent 10 years in this area. Obviously Duke didn't have the footprint we had but seriously, how was Duke going to recruit 4 and 5 stars. He just got his feet wet at Oklahoma State. But yes, whoever it is needs to be A+ recruiter.

But the guys at Duke played hard for him. Seemed to be disciplined.

How about Ted roof as DC and Willy Korn as OC but knowing Dabo he is just going to promote from within

I’m getting old. I remember when Ted was the in demand young coordinator back in the day.

Terrible thought with Streeter… too many wannabes (OJT assistants) on the offensive side already

Definitely knows his oline. First year with Baylor, would he leave. One good thing. He knows the SEC footprint for recruiting.

Either way, should be the best recruiter we can find.

So, you want to go back to the Bowden years? Only thing that saved us from being back there this year was Coach Venables.

Heck no to anyone from Coastal and the minors.

Dec 5, 2021, 1:10 PM

Are you insane? Todd Bates? Zero DC experience and honestly has been a drop off from Hobby/brooks. If Dabo makes that move we are looking to go back. to Bowden days. Don’t know enough Staggs but I would be fine with Parker. My guess is Dabo has someone in mind that no one is thinking about.

Same with Streeter. That’s a no for me. I like 2 and 3.

that someone in mind could be Ted Roof who is already on staff in an off the field coaching role and has experience as a defensive coordinator

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Here are my top 3 replacements for both offensive/defensive cord.

Dec 5, 2021, 2:18 PM

That is who I would go with before I gave the job to an assistant without any college coordinator experience. I mean Ted wasn't a very HC, but we don't need a HC, but it is possible that we may need a DC if BV leaves us, and I am praying that he doesn't, and that hasn't happen, it's only speculation, and BV's name to OU is the 4 or 5 speculated HC hire since all this began. I mean just yesterday, Lanning was a done deal.

I’ll probably get some hate for this but if TE takes a head coaching job, I’d like to consider Willy Korn at coastal as OC. Their offense has been pretty good and he’s a Clemson product. At least to start, hit with injury bug before transferring.

Wonder what he could do with our talent.

Don’t know who I’d pick as DC.

This is pure conjecture but I think Babers is out at Syracuse and if BV leaves , the door opens at CU. If TE leaves, we have our OC in Streeter bringing QB guru David C.(ex Duke coach) to replace Streeter as QB's coach. JMO.

Georgia has a great defense with co-defensive coordinators...I bet Lanning or Schumann might like to have their own space....could take the Clemson job without even moving....But I know nothing. It is all banter. Who knows who would be the best fit other than the guy that runs the system...Mr Swinney.
