Help me understand the desire for joe Brady.

Dec 9, 2021, 4:28 PM

I t do not understand the desire. He did not call plays at LSU and was fired from the only place he actually called plays. How does they make him a home run hire over Brandon streeter?

Yes. His role was reported on pretty well in 2019. He as brought in specifically to implement the RPO and was up in the booth with Steve and had a play ready to go in the hopper after each down. There's a reason LSU stunk with the same exact players in 2018, blew the doors off of College football in 2019 and then stunk again with new players in 2020.

Burrow wasn't a portal player so it didn't. But that transfer did. Great players and great coaches go a long way.

I'm pretty sure he transferred from 0-3-1-0 state...

Yes but not using the portal. The portal was instituted after he transferred.

I’m gonna need some clarification…

Dec 9, 2021, 5:37 PM [ in reply to Re: So the portal didn't have anything to do with it?*** ]

Yesterday we were blown out by portal players. Today we were beat by really good coaching, and a QB who was not a portal player.

what games has streeter called plays for?

Dec 9, 2021, 4:35 PM

not advocating for OR against joe brady, but very similar questions if not MORE questions can be asked about streeter............and aside from "Dabo believes in him" there's not much more reasoning for it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: what games has streeter called plays for?

Dec 9, 2021, 4:37 PM

Well Streeter was a record breaking play caller at both schools he served as OC. He also put up 444 yards, 400 passing yards, 3tds from the qb and 29 points in a playoff game.

Re: what games has streeter called plays for?

Dec 9, 2021, 4:46 PM

he put up 28 points on a defense that was ranked 44th.

meanwhile ohio state put up 49 on the 18th ranked defense.

scoring in the 20s doesn't cut it in the playoffs

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: what games has streeter called plays for?

Dec 9, 2021, 4:54 PM

Yes 28, typo.

29 points cut it fine for us against Ohio State in 2018 and less than 28 cut it for Alabama in 2017.

Again, the issue against Ohio State was not Streeter. We scored just as many points against them in every single quarter but the second quarter. That quarter our defense shat the bed.

Re: what games has streeter called plays for?

Dec 9, 2021, 5:02 PM

sorry, doesn't cut it to win the playoffs. Offense rules the roost. Do I think the sole reason for this year has been playcalling?......no, but cracks in our "offensive foundation" have been evident since the 2019 LSU game.........ACC competition isn't the best barometer for success.

But it did cut it for those games. How can you say it doesn't cut it for the playoffs but I give you specific games where those scores won play off games, one of which went on to win the championship?

If our defense holds up it's more than enough to cut it.

He had less than a week to prepare for that game. He was also going against a team that had half a season to prepare for the playoffs

Re: what games has streeter called plays for?

Dec 9, 2021, 6:19 PM [ in reply to Re: what games has streeter called plays for? ]

You're an idiot. Streeter didn't do any of that. Think it might have something to do with NFL receivers, Trevor Lawrence, and Travis Etienne. He didn't break any records at Liberty. And they average 30 points a game over his time at Richmond. If that's record-setting, that's pathetic. Also he was our worst QB in history.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He most certainly did call plays at LSU

Dec 9, 2021, 4:37 PM

The magic that happened in 2019 at LSU is why some want Joe Brady here.

I'm not totally sold because watching Joe Burrow, Jamar Chase and Justin Jefferson in the NFL proves they were cheat codes in college. Brady's track record at Carolina isn't good either, though talent was part of the problem.

Re: He most certainly did call plays at LSU

Dec 9, 2021, 4:37 PM

But why were they not cheat codes for Steve in 2018 at LSU?

Re: He most certainly did call plays at LSU

Jamarr Chase and terrace Marshall were freshmen in 2018. Joe burrow was a junior and it was his first year at LSU and had thrown 40 passes in his college career at the start of 2018

Re: He most certainly did call plays at LSU

Dec 9, 2021, 5:48 PM [ in reply to Re: He most certainly did call plays at LSU ]

The players were younger in 2018? If you look back, the LSU offense was starting to put up big numbers late in 2018. Their final 3 games they scored 42, 72, and 40. The 72 happened in 7 overtimes but the points didn’t score themselves. Burrow threw for 394 yards in the bowl game against UCF. I’d say they ended the year with a lot of momentum on offense.

Even if your opinion is the prior OC didn’t do anything with the same players that doesn’t mean the players weren’t great. Maybe that OC was just really bad?

I know the NFL draft isn’t always a direct reflection of talent in college, but Burrow, Jefferson, and Chase are all doing really well in the NFL and Edwards has been pretty solid himself.

Streeter. >. Brady

Streeter has the pedigree and past results . Streeter was calling plays at the Richmond Spiders while Joe Brady was still in diapers. Combine that with how tough Streeter was as a QB back during the West ,Bowden days and D.J and T.P.’s QB’s development. It’s really simple people

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Help me understand the desire for joe Brady.

Dec 9, 2021, 6:23 PM

LOL. Richmond Spiders. Forgive me if putting up 30 points a game for the Richmond Spiders doesn't make me think he's world-class. And Streeter was a trash QB. The statistics don't lie, no matter what you want to blame. And what QB has he developed? Puma, Brice, Cooper, Johnson, and Bryant didn't improve at all under Streeter. Boyd left before Streeter came. Most experts felt Trevor's passing mechanics got worse from freshman year, though he felt more comfortable as a player. The only player who improved was Deshaun, but he hired a private coach. You're delusional.

Burrow, Chase, Jefferson, Marshall, Moss, CEH + Cam Cameron in the box (iirc) grossly inflated his stock. Seems to be correcting now

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think this interview with his co-OC at LSU (Ensminger)

Dec 10, 2021, 11:06 AM

provides a glimpse.

https://247sports.com/college/lsu/LongFormArticle/LSU-Tigers-football-National-Championship-Game-Clemson-2020-New-Orleans-Steve-Ensminger-interview-142080486/#142080486_10

That LSU offense was likely the best offense in the history of the sport. The unit was absolutely stacked with NFL talent though, which has to be taken into account.

With that said, we have evidence of what Brady working with elite college talent looks like. I believe the talent will continue to come in, so I don't really see how anyone could be more qualified to work with elite talent given the team's success in 2019. Again that LSU offense was likely the best the sport has ever seen.
