Why are we being slammed so badly for losses to Scar and Loyola?

Those are two programs who have been to a Final 4 in the last decade.

I’m just stating facts here.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Because now, both of those teams really suck !!!!***

they suck.

and the suckiest kicked our a$$ - so, we’ve got that going for us - which is nice.

I for one am glad you are stopping. You are one of the most ignorant posters ever. You obviously think very highly of your own opinion, unlike the rest of us - RockHillTiger

Yeah, but we’re really good.

And we only sucked for two nights.

And those are blue blood programs.

Blue blood. You and I must have different definitions of blue blood.

How many schools have been to the Final 4 in the last six years?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think one trip to the final four...

1

Jan 27, 2023, 4:08 PM

equates to being a blood blood. It more closely resembles a blind squirrel.

Well then how do you decide who has blue blood and who doesn’t?

And I don’t think you just get to the Final 4 by accident. Heck, it’s hard just to get into the tournament, as we know all too well.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Similar to most collegiate sports...

Jan 27, 2023, 4:46 PM

with a few notable exceptions, the real blue bloods don't tend to change a whole lot over time.

Take Nebraska for example. There was time when they were absolutely considered a college football blue blood. Now...not so much !!!

So how do you become “elite” ?***

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Long term sustained success...

Jan 27, 2023, 5:43 PM

Of course, the definition of "success" is a bit relative and subject to a variety of interpretations.

As an example, Clemson has been one of the most successful college football programs over the last ten years. There's really no arguing that and during that time, Clemson absolutely achieved elite status.
Does that mean Clemson is a college football blue blood? I think most people would say no. However, teams like Michigan, Penn State, Southern Cal, Texas, or Notre Dame, who have not even remotely experienced that same level of success in decades, is still considered by many to be college football blue bloods.

Jan 27, 2023, 4:50 PM [ in reply to Yeah, but we’re really good. ]

But you are forgetting the most important factor, we are Clemson, and they hate us only bc we're a smaller school in the upper corner of South Carolina. We even have one of the better, nicer and politest fan bases in the country that are really like by most opponents that we play against, believe it or not, that is one of the main reasons they hate us so much, and we work hard and deserve what we earn without the rich man giving it to us like they will to a huge school with one of the biggest alumni's with a bunch of grads that has made tons of money as doctors, lawyers, and CEO's of huge drug companies, and automobile manufactories, with some owning some of the biggest trucking companies in the U S along with some of the biggest shipping companies in the world, and they hate us bluebloods bc we do complain about their legal law breaking and racketeering!!!! And then Clemson can actually compete with those types of suits, and it's not a well kept secret even though they like to think that is bc most of the types of people that graduate from Clemson, will never be able to prove how dirty the huge schools are with their dirty cooperation's they're connected to;) LMAO bc, it started out as a joke, but we wouldn't be shocked to know how close I was to the actual truth of the filthy rich and famous....

The past is the past and those teams are a bad 8-12 and 7-13. Just the facts.

Who cares what they did before. Loyola sucka this year. They are 1-7 in conference and 7-13 overall. They suck.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I’m saying it’s not like we lost to USC Upstate.

1

Jan 27, 2023, 4:14 PM

We lost to programs that are good enough to make the Final 4.
Anyone who understands college basketball should know this.

yes we are being penalized for Scar and Loyola, but we are also being penalized for playing so many quad 4 games. I believe we have played 9 in total (7-2). Those 7 wins carry very little weight.

Re: Why are we being slammed so badly for losses to Scar and Loyola?

Cut and pasted but this may help answer your question:

According to WarrenNolan, Clemson has a No. 339-ranked non-conference strength of schedule -- and the Tigers went 8-3 against it. Two losses fell in that worst tier with the NCAA's NET tourney resume tool in Loyola-Chicago at a neutral site (76-58) and South Carolina on the road (60-58).

Since that Loyola-Chicago defeat in December, however, the Tigers have notched a pair of Quadrant 1 wins (68-65 at Virginia Tech and 75-74 at Pitt) and three more Q2 victories. Not facing the toughest conference slate to this point, Clemson also added a pair of Q4 wins (72-51 over GT and 83-70 over Louisville).

Overall, Clemson's schedule is rated 156th overall.

That doesn’t answer it at all. But thank you for the information.***

Either the computer rankings are designed to suck, or they just suck by accident. With 10 games to go in the season, a first place acc team is a “quad 1” team. I don’t need a dang computer to tell me that. Gimme a fudgin break

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Heck I remember when we didn’t have these stupid quads!

You just ranked the teams.
And somehow we ended up with good tournaments and good champions at the end of the season. Must’ve just gotten lucky or something.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Whoa there

Jan 27, 2023, 5:00 PM

What in the name of Science are you suggesting?! The fallibility of our sacred computers?! The allowance of a human element in our holy rankings that will determine how teams are selected in the biggest money making sports tournament of the year? Heretic!

Jan 27, 2023, 6:05 PM [ in reply to Heck I remember when we didn’t have these stupid quads! ]

Just looking at the net rankings. Unless it's been updated, we are still trailing VT. I cannot fathom a ranking having you behind a team you have beaten twice. Folks can yell strength of schedule all they want, but most of this stuff makes zero sense.

Re: Why are we being slammed so badly for losses to Scar and Loyola?

Jan 27, 2023, 6:12 PM

Because some nerd was paid to develop an algorithm to rank teams. He used a matrix system which weighted Q4 losses higher than wins. He also failed to factor in progression during the season so an early loss to a bad team counts the same as a late season loss. This is why VT, a team we beat twice, is ranked higher than us with three conference wins.
