Headed to U of L and the bourbon trail....

Feb 6, 2021, 6:08 PM

Looking ahead past this cold, rainy day to next football season. Probably going to Louisville this year. I am a fan of bourbon and horses, so any travel advice/itinerary would appreciated. Thanks! Y’all be safe, and go Tigers!

We went to Louisville last time we played there

It's a great place for an away game.

I'm not a big bourbon fan but Angel's Envy Rum Barrel Rye did a beautiful job of taking care of my needs, uhhh, wants.

As for what to do, the distillery tours are fun. Louisville Slugger and Churchill Downs are both great and the food is good all over.

You'll like it.

Buffalo Trace and Woodford tours for sure (but both a drive and suggest a tour company. Stay downtown and you can walk to old forester, michters, and angels envy (though a little longer walk). Troll pub under the bridge is a cool spot too. There’s a courtyard Marriott and aloft in center of town. Think peerless is down there somewhere but didn’t see it when last I was there.

Went 2 years ago. Other than BC road game the wife and i enjoyed Louisville as our 2nd favorite road game. Stayed downtown at the Marriott.Sight seeing trips were Church Hill Downs . Louisville Bat Factory and Bourbon sampling. Bat factory was giving free entry and small orange and purple bats to Tiger fans on Friday. Staying downtown we walked to 4th (I think4th ) Street Live for great restaurants and entertainment.. The whole block is covered. Tons of fun! GoTigers!

Stayed at the Brown Hotel--pretty cool old hotel.

Volare and Jeff Ruby's for dinner

4th street is cool.

Louisville Slugger tour is worth signing up for ahead of time.

Woodford Reserve for sure, heard Buffalo Trace was great visit too. Also enjoyed Wild Turkey.

Churchill Downs is nothing compared to Keeneland in Lexington, but still worth doing.

Go Tigers!

I generally try to stay out of Kentucky all together.

there are only like 4 or 5 things to do there that does not involve moonshine and meth, and nothing good can come of that.

The Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort is a nice tour. If you are interested in horse farms you may want to check out Three Chimney Farm near Versailles. Seattle Slew and Smarty Jones were there the last time I visited about 15 years ago. Runnymede Farm near Paris is probably the oldest thoroughbred breeding farm in the US. Both farms are owned by the Clay families, distant relatives of mine. Obviously, we don't travel in the same circles nor do we share the same bank account.
