Saban calling for 9 game conference schedule

Many others like Bruce Feldman and Tim Brando on this bandwagon and saying it would force other conferences to do so too.

That would not work for Clemson unless a small school like Furman or Citadel is sacrificed so we can play the Coots and have home-away quality Power 5 team to meet scheduling criticism/concerns of CFP committee in picking top 4.

for example, we play GA Southern and Furman. We could still play Furman, but just not play Ga Southern.

Next year, we play Charlotte and Wofford. We could just not play Charlotte.

everyone but the SEC and ACC does it. The reason those 2 haven't is because of the ACC/SEC rival games that tie up UL/UK, UGA/GT, FSU/FL and CU/SC Those teams have gotten enough of the others in the past to squash this. It sounds like Texas and A&M are possibly talking about getting the rivalry back so that would be another NO vote. Those teams would still need some other allies to stay at 8...it's mainly the teams with instate/inconference rivals pushing this typically. The ACC was able to swing enough NO votes but it was close last time. One of things the ACC did to help with scheduling concerns was to allow teams to play conference opponents without it counting as a conf game. This is good for the teams who have to look for an extra "non-conf" game due to not having an instate non-conf rival built in. The SEC should consider the same. Otherwise they are putting some very good SEC/ACC rivalry match-ups in jeopardy.
