Question about Auburn game outcome

Aug 14, 2012, 8:56 AM

what type game to you forsee. Not necessarily who wins. I think D's are ahead early it will be a low scoring defensive struggle decided by a late kick.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-74tiger.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think Clemson wins by 10+...

Aug 14, 2012, 9:05 AM

If Sammy was playing, Clemson wins by 20+.

Similar to last year, the Auburn defense will not be able to stop Clemson's offense.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Given our possible struggle on the O Line

Aug 14, 2012, 9:07 AM

It may be a low scoring, defensive game. But honestly, our offense should be able to hang at least 28 pts. on anybody. Again, hopefully our O Line is at least average.

Landon Walker and Ontoine McLain

Aug 14, 2012, 9:18 AM

were absolutely awful last year. I am not saying that our Oline will be better this year (I hope it is) but I don't think it could be any worse either. If Boyd eliminates some of his mental mistakes and also if he proves to be a better runner in the zone read stuff I think we have a good chance to be good, if not great, team this year. But, I do realize that those might be some big "ifs"

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree, both of those guys were SOFT...

Aug 14, 2012, 9:29 AM

You could see it on the field, sense it in the interviews, etc. We need some mean OL to emerge.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's one thing I'm not getting about all the OL posts...

Aug 14, 2012, 9:30 AM [ in reply to Landon Walker and Ontoine McLain ]

Our OL line last year was BELOW average and still look at the number of points we were able to put up. Yes we may not have the "experience" you prefer to have on the offensive line, but I promise you in my heart of hearts that the 5 guys that will be starting on that OL this year will be MORE talented than the 5 that were on it last year.

Bottome line, our line last year sucked. Flat out, you know, I know it, and we still hung enough on EVERYBODY to win.. So really, ALL we need is this line to be average.

And on a side note, I think the pistol will help some things out tremendously.

Couldn't have said it better...***

Auburn with a new "smash mouth" offense with an unproven

Aug 14, 2012, 9:09 AM

Auburn with a new "smash mouth" offense with a new and unproven OC. PLus they have some controversy going on at RB. I do not see their offense putting up a lot of points in the first place. Even without Sammy, Chad Morris' offense should be good for 24 points before he even gets out of bed in the morning. Now if we can go out there and execute some plays on offense and confuse those Auburn linebackers I think we should be able to beat them.

My gut tells me that the first half will be close with Clemson up by perhaps 7. But the second half we wear out their front 4 on the D line and we win 35-14.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think you can call Scoot Loeffler unproven.

Aug 14, 2012, 9:23 AM

He's definitely had success and a fairly accomplished past. Just because he isn't a house hold name doesn't mean he is unproven, so i wouldn't discount him.

However, there are lots of issues with Auburn's offense that he has to address, and the question will be whether they're ready to go on day one.

Defensively, they'll be stout as they always are.

I expect to win this game. I also expect it to be a lot closer than I'd like it to be.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He only has 1 year experience as an OC, how is that

Aug 14, 2012, 9:34 AM

not considered unproven? And that 1 year OC experience, that was in running Steve Addazio's offense with Steve having a big hand in the play calling as well. Also, he wants to establish a pro style, smash mouth scheme. Where has he ever worked in this scheme? Certainly not at UF under Urban. Or at Michigan under Lloyd. Or at Temple under Steve.

I am not saying that Scot will be a bad OC, I just think he has a ways to go to become a good one.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm taking Clemson by 7+

Aug 14, 2012, 9:31 AM

I'm hoping we completely pour it on the War Eagles, but my gut tells me it will be too close for comfort.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Auburn has the edge on both sides of the ball in the

Aug 14, 2012, 9:43 AM

trenches. They win by 7+. Also, they went out and finally got a real DC in Brian VanGorder. He wins the head-to-head chess match vs Morris.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They may start 3 true freshman on the O-line

Aug 14, 2012, 9:46 AM

I am not so sure they have the advantage on both sides. Their D-line is more experienced and highly rated though.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"All Time Clemson"????

Aug 14, 2012, 9:59 AM [ in reply to Auburn has the edge on both sides of the ball in the ]

pessimist?

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He might win the chess match

Aug 14, 2012, 10:03 AM [ in reply to Auburn has the edge on both sides of the ball in the ]

if the pieces weren't human beings. Our offense has a year in Chad's system, and by many accounts their D is having a hard time learning VanGorder's system.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: He might win the chess match

Aug 14, 2012, 10:27 AM

It appears from last year that the more time in Chad's system, the worst we did.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It may appear that way

Aug 14, 2012, 10:32 AM

but a lot of that had to do with Watkins getting hurt, Price getting hurt, and Tajh getting fat. The offense wasn't bad in the ACCCG or the Orange Bowl. (the defense was the problem in the latter of the two)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

74 Tiger, I agree with you about a defensive struggle.

Aug 14, 2012, 10:05 AM

But I see us pulling away in the late 3rd or 4th quarter with one or two TD's

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Offensively, I think we go out and do what we do.

Aug 14, 2012, 10:27 AM

VanGorder's defenses bring a lot of pressure and it will be up to Tajh to make the right decisions under duress. I like our offenses chances with an experienced QB against VanGorder's scheme.

Defensively, we need to stop the run. Frazier will be AUs QB and he has in no way proven he can throw the ball effectively. He can scramble and run his butt off, which in the past has been very bad for our D. I think Venables shows a lot of confusing zone looks and tries to make Frazier think too much instead of settling down and letting the play come to him.

They have a bevy of good RBs, most of them unproven on the field, but they are all talented. If we keep'em under 200yds rushing, it will be a victory.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Auburn shouldn't score more than 20 considering their lack

Aug 14, 2012, 10:38 AM

of a QB and adjusting to a pro-set offense. Sans Sammy we'll score at least 24, so I'm seeing a 27-17 final score, Clemson.
