Why is Phil Steele a "popular" pre-season prognosticator?

Jun 9, 2014, 4:27 PM

All he does is re-hash history from the past 3-4 seasons ...

And his format is almost unreadable ...

Don't get it

I like his book because it has tons of information in it.

As far as prognostication goes, its worthless whether its coming from steele, athlon, or whoever else. But at least steele's book is an easy reference for info.

It's his hair - no, wait - that's Kiper - nevermind***

"When I was young, I was sure of many things; now there are only two things of which I am sure: one is, that I am a miserable sinner; and the other, that Christ is an all-sufficient Saviour. He is well-taught who learns these two lessons." -John Newton

anybody can tell us where we have been..

We proved him wrong the last two years, and will again this year.

Well he had us #11 pre season last year and

Jun 10, 2014, 10:30 AM

had us #14 the year before. So it's not like he was way off.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I also believe that, at least statistically, he's more...

Jun 10, 2014, 10:40 AM

more accurate than the other preseason magazines. Although, of course, that could just be him saying that.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm with you....look at his prediction section and he's

Jun 9, 2014, 7:03 PM

Usually wrong twice as much as he's right on teams.

Jun 10, 2014, 12:39 PM

Nope. Is your address too hard for you to understand? Or do you always give out a fake one in hopes of looking tough and confrontational?

Lol. Sit down you little poser. Do you want me to post our last Tmail interchange for the whole board to see?

You probably don't care seeing as how you've committed board suicide.

Re: Why is Phil Steele a "popular" pre-season prognosticator?

Jun 9, 2014, 11:08 PM

He's as good as anybody if not the best. Obviously he gets things wrong but college football isn't an easy thing to predict.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Because he backs his claims up with facts

Jun 10, 2014, 12:22 AM

All of the talking heads are nothing but prognosticators. At least he bases his opinions on data. He's a regular on the ESPNU College Football podcast during the regular season. I've always liked the insight that his data provided.

Re: He gets the names right and, like Mel Kiper, at least...

Jun 10, 2014, 9:37 AM

seems to go thru at least a modicum of effort to study the teams.....some of the other mags read like they all post the exact same clip from a warehouse.

That being said....NOBODY can predict what is actually going to happen.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

2 factoids from his '14 review that I found of interesting:

Jun 10, 2014, 10:23 AM

1) When CU beat #5 GA to open the '13 season (having beaten #9 LSU in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl to end the '12), they became the first non-SEC team to defeat 2 top-10 SEC teams back-to-back... ever.

2) CU is 72-0-1 when gaining 500+ yards all-time.....

I like him a lot when he picks the Tigers in the top 5 winning the Natty.

I dislike him when he ranks us low.

Pretty simple.

^^Watch out bros, we've got a master troll on our hands. Exposing our faults for all the world to see.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Never made sense to me, he is always wrong...

Jun 11, 2014, 3:56 AM

He is pretty clueless about football. I don't understand how guys like him, Tony Barnhardt, or Ivan Maisel have a job covering football when they don't even understand the sport.
