LOL... based on what? he hasn't done anything, yet. why not pay these coaches about 1-2 million/yr.. and, base the rest on performance per game? you win, you get X amount... you lose you get X amount.. you win the division.. you get X amount... conference, X amount... make the playoffs, X amount... natty, X amount.

money is going to ruin college football.. at least for the fans of today,.. the transitional fans. 20 yrs from now it'll all be the norm.. now you got texas offering O-lineman outta high school 50k/yr to come to texas.. you think wake forest can pay kids that? welcome to the minor leagues of the NFL.

Sir,money has already ruined sports.I will say it right now,Venables will not be worth it.Yes,he was a superior DC at Clemsom, but I don't think he is head coach material.I also feel like he just kinda fled Clemson in the middle of the night.I think he is a rat.Everyone throwing around superlatives and nice talk in the media,I would like to hear what they day at home.Always a Clemson Tiger.

You guys have lost your mind! Saying Brent Venables doesn’t deserve $7.25 million a year to coach Oklahoma. The guy has only been the best defensive coordinator since Mickey Andrews. I’d run through a wall for BV and #### sure better believe any kid that plays for him will.
And yeah. Sports are SO ruined because of money! Why do you watch then?!
It sounds like you guys are butt hurt that he left. I get it. It sucks he left. But, if ANY coach is worth elite money, it’s Venables. I’m done being salty over him leaving. I want to see him succeed. He gave us his best for 10+ years. It’s next man up! Dabo has earned the right to do it his way!!

unless you're curing a disease, or you're actually providing a useful product that helps people in their daily lives, i don't think anyone is worth that much money per year. especially, those that contribute nothing more than entertainment. why do i watch it? cause i love football. the sport, itself, hasn't changed. i'm not butthurt he left. i woulda gone, too! no way you can turn that kinda money down. but, that doesn't mean the job's worth it. and, my opinion isn't solely directed towards BV.

look at how many of these coaches, that get these ridiculous contracts, fall flat on their faces and get fired a year or two later. how are those coaches worth the money they signed for? they're not, or they'd still be employed by the institution that offered that contract to them.

why not make a coach actually earn their pay? what's wrong w/ a healthy base pay.. a VERY healthy base pay.. with monetary incentives to win?

BV's entire time at OU, and at Clemson was as a DC, he has never been tested as a HC, and we have seen some awesome Coordinators, OC, and DC become a total bust as a Head Coach, and this means that the jury is still out on BV being a successful HC. And no, I'm not saying that he will be a Bust, nobody knows that within his first week as a first time HC!!! But OU will know within BV's first contract if it was a mistake for OU. But I'm not afraid to say that with the damage that it will cause for my beloved Clemson by his leaving so quickly will do, and has done, I admit, I hope he falls flat on his face at OU!!! But I will feel the very same for anybody's actions that will cause harm to the Clemson FB program that I love!!!

You make some valid points EXCEPT “they will know in his first year whether it’s a bust.” Seriously?! What happened to letting a coach build HIS program before passing judgement. Getting HIS guys in there will take four years. Sure, they will find out a lot about him his first year. Not enough to make a full evaluation. Only what he can do with Riley’s players. This society is perilously turning into an instant gratification society. What can you do for me five minutes ago?! Give the man time to put his product on the field.
And, yeah, it’s totally insane to give the best defensive coordinator possibly ever a $7.25 million a year job. ?? He is at least the best since Mickey Andrews at FSU. I’d play for BV.

Is he though? Most on this board are pretty certain there will be no dropoff post his departure.

What I find interesting.... When SABAN loses coach after coach, everyone says that it is business as usual for the "GOAT" in bamalama. He, of course, recovers year after year to be in the mix for another natty. Folks have said this is the beginning of the end for Coach D here in ROY bus town. To me this seems like a test of all tests whether or not DS deserves to be in the same conversation as SATAN, I mean SABAN. Persevere, stand the test of time, and I believe he will make the grade. I know we're not the roll tide nation, and I do not want to be them. We are Tiger nation, with Tiger VIRTUE. God bless those who have come before and those yet to join our Pride. We are CLEMSON!!!!

Dabo already has proven his value at evaluations, and he has wasted no time getting rid of mistakes (I’ll give a little pass on his keeping the OL coach so long), but he has pulled the trigger on several assistants who weren’t up to snuff. I have much confidence in Brent and in Tony, and I have plenty of confidence in Dabo’s ability to replace them with very, very good coaches.

Venables...you are a genius! 7 million a year
for 6 years guaranteed! So, if you suck as a
head coach with losing seasons....OKlahoma
is stuck. Hahahaha! You can suck for 43 million
dollars nowadays...College football has gone nuts!
Great job Brent...Football is all about money.
