Have to feel really bad for Stephone Anthony

Nov 30, 2014, 12:19 PM

He has really come on in his career at Clemson. And he had a fantastic year this year.
Such a travesty to have him ejected and not be around at the end for his final game in
Death Valley on a call that was total BS.
I could see roughing being called because the ball was already gone. But there was no way
in he## that targeting should have been called.

The officials were terrible all day with bad calls, no calls, and some spots that were nowhere
close to where the ball should have been spotted. And the guy in the replay booth might as well
have stayed home. What was he looking at all day?
These guys need to be reprimanded. It was ridiculous all day and there is no excuse for it.
But, I won't be holding my breath waiting for something to happen.

Yeah it was such a light hit and not with the crown of the helmet, he didnt launch himself.. it was dumb. The late hit flag was correct.. he shouldnt have hit him at all, but to say that was targeting was just stupid.

Have you discovered a way to stop on a dime when

Nov 30, 2014, 12:23 PM

you are running at full speed????? GIVE ME A BREAK. It's football!! That ball was thrown out of bounds. The ref wanted to affect the flow of the game. SIMPLE AS THAT!!

..his inertial dampers were off line.....

it enrages me to see a blown call reinforced by the booth in spite of overwhenlming obvious evidence. And the initial call wass a complete piece of carp too. Barely touched him. And then the fumble the guy out of position called dead was another gem.

That crew yesterday was atrocious. At least we didnt get a phantom holding call

and don't forget Watson's non TD call

where his knee didn't touch the ground until he was a foot into the end zone. I think that the ego's of the officiating crews/replay booths do not want to overturn anything unless it's not even close because they want to protect the "look" of the crews. What they end up doing is making them look even more inept. Here's a dirty little secret....a buddy of mine from HS has been a MEAC and Big XII official now for 12 years. I grew up with him so he tells me things he wouldn't admit to a fan, etc.. He said that the sad truth is that the game is too fast today for some of the older officials but they do not want an age discrimination issue to pop up as long as the zebras can pass physicals and PT tests, etc.. He said that it actually drives the younger guys nuts when the older guys blow calls and let their ego get in the way but it's a slippery slope because of the politics of the officiating culture. He's a side judge and said that he works with some guys who drive him crazy, especially with holding calls on receivers blocking and PI calls where the WR is more handsy than the DB is. I could go on and on, but the intent of player safety with the Anthony call is laughable at best. I could swallow a borderline 15 yarder, but a targeting call and ejection? What an absolute abomination. Watson's TD, the fumble, and SA's joke of a call were three of the worst I've seen since the 1985 phantom TD against Maryland where Danny about blew a blood vessel in his head along with the rest of us who witnessed that travesty.

replay officials should not be former officials at all

Nov 30, 2014, 9:19 PM

you don't need the whole rulebook in your head for that position. You need to know how to work a video player and use your eyes.
You also need to feel impartial and not trying to cover the on field guys' arses.

Coaches challenges are useless, you're basically asking the guy in the booth to admit he isn't doing his job.

Targeting calls are ruining football, the coaches need to revolt to the conf offices this offseason. It must change.

When did the ACC hire PAC-12 officials?

Seriously.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Usually the visiting team's conference officials call the game
