all a high school kid has to do is look at what is already in our running back room, and he will know in advance that he would have to be REALLY special to make a dent in it. THAT is the one kid we are looking for this time around, one who is absolutely fearless when it comes to welcoming competition for playing time.
That is the decision that CJ Spiller himself had to make when he contemplated coming to Clemson. We had a guy named James Davis, who was not going to ride pine behind anybody. I'd say that worked out pretty well for all concerned, since we have been striving to get a new "Thunder and Lightning" ever since.

Exactly like what we have done at QB. We need that kid that is fearless that also understands if he is a back up 1 or even 2 years, he will probable get some playing time and then have a chance to start for a championship caliber team. ETN was another example. We will be fine.

I think there’s also some negative recruiting from other schools pointing out all our recent problems with Oline depth. Also, probably opposing coaches likely noting the veteran RBs that have transferred while Rencher was ahead on the depth chart. There’s lots of ways to spin that situation and get a young kid thinking to go elsewhere.

Nobody questions CJ’s work ethic. We’re just questioning his results. And so far, they’ve been beyond awful.

How should we know that he can recruit? The current evidence casts significant doubt. When he was hired I was expecting CJ to be an excellent recruiter given he is a younger coach with experience in the league plus has always seemed like a genuine person. Frankly I still expect CJ to become an excellent recruiter but based on his results to date it gives me reason to think that perhaps I could be wrong in my assumptions. At the least it seems there is a learning curve which most were not expecting.

Your opinion of our backs is far different than most people. We had injuries across the board last year so throw it out but what evidence is there that we have a feature back? Unless our backs show more than they have in the past, a high school star should be absolutely excited to come in and have a shot at being RB1.
