Have always been a proponent of keeping CFP at 4

but am now wondering if I should rethink that, in the wake of recent realignment. If we stay in the ACC and the field stays at 4, I think any loss may be a disqualifier. Surely any expansion of CFP would include an automatic bid to the SCC champ, right?

Same here... 4 or maybe 6. I will stomach 8 but talk of 12 or 16 to me makes me sick.
I get what you are saying about us but as far as overall college football goes...
No year has teams that far down been good enough to hang with 1 or 2. The playoff was about getting team #2 right. The BCS often times had a tiny tiny difference between teams 2 and 3 (2011 was a big one) and having teams 3-4 in there ensured you definitely had the 2 best teams in the country playing in the playoff.
Never have we said... man I really think that team ranked 13th could beat all of the top 5.
Hopefully we dont go beyond 8 or maybe they will just leave it alone. 4 is enough.

I hate the idea of auto-bids

Being a conference champ doesnt mean youre playoff worthy. Lets say a 7-6 Coastal team lucks up and beats a 12-0 Clemson team. Or some garbage Pac 12 or Big 12 team wins their league and gets in.....why are we putting a team like that in the playoff "just because" In all likelihood it screws over a much more deserving team.

That said, its been thus far pretty difficult to find more than 3 teams that actually match up well enough in the current playoff. How are you going to find 10 or 12 or more teams that are remotely competitive with the tops tier teams (you aren't). Its asinine. But oh we have to be PC and be inclusive.

I can understand that argument

But to me, the benefit of autobids is that it removes the eye-test opinion based criteria. Every team at the start of the season knows their path (win their conference), whereas now you have to not only win, you have to "impress" folks.

I think I'm for autobids as long as the system is geared with strong incentives as to seeding. That way teams are encouraged to play strong OOC games in the hope of getting a first round home game or some other equally strong incentive.
