frost in the SC upstate tonight or the next 2 nights? I have early crops in my garden and need to know if I should cover them. I can’t find any forecasts for frost formation.

I live btwn Pickens and Sunset. The forecast low for tonight is 40°. Even allowing for some local fluctuations, I doubt anywhere in the state is forecasting frost.

Sunday and Monday nights in the Upstate. Really, depends on exactly where you live. Our "valley" runs 3-4 degrees colder than forecasts.

I plant to cover two rows with a tarp, then mound up some leaves around the others.

Thanks Mole! I guess I’ll take protective measures the next two nights.

You can set you the above ground sprinklers up to cover all your plants in the garden, put it on a timer before the frost is to come in, and nothing in the garden will be harmed from the frost. When I was doing the yearly gardens, I always planted and set plants out early bc a simple sprinkler system would keep the frost from killing or damaging anything in my garden. Check to see when the frost is expected, set your timer for about 30 minutes to an hour before the frost comes, and you'll be ok, just make sure you have your timer set for turning on time, and a shutting off time.

A frost usually comes in about an hour before daylight.

Sorry, meant to TU you. The only problem I have with using my sprinklers is how soaked the ground is already. I don’t want to drown my plants either.

I will TU the next 10 posts of yours no matter how bad they may be.

Years ago I put my mater plants in the ground a bit early...

Mom always said wait until after Easter, but I didn't this time . So we got a frost warning in Gville and I covered them with plastic grocery bags. I guess the bags were touching the plants and it really zapped them good. A lot of the leaves turned black and I thought they were all dead. I was prepared to rip em up and start over. But my FIL came over a couple days later and just pinched off all the dead leaves and limbs and said - they'll be fine. Uh, OK. It took a couple weeks, but they did indeed recover...

In fact, those were the thickest and bushiest plants I've ever had. That early "severe pruning" seemed to do wonders. Not that I was ever brave enough to do it again, mind you. LOL

Thanks for a valuable idea. Much better to try this than start all over.

The only weather I watch out for is the storm tornado type. True, frost damages crops. But I am not a farmer.
