Interesting tidbit... First Manassas (not bull run yankee) was fought partially on Wilmer McLeans land. He moved to Appomattox to "escape" the war, Lee surrendered in his house. Armed conflict started and ended on his land, I will never forget that from history class.

He lost his house at First Manassas when a union cannonball dropped through the kitchen fireplace.

After the surrender, he lost his belongings when union soldiers carried off anything that wasn't nailed down. They even took stuff that was nailed down.
