Grisham

Oct 24, 2021, 12:22 AM

Why is nobody saying anything about the position coach over the poorest performing unit on this entire team?

They looked bad in the OSU loss last year and frankly the Fiesta Bowl against OSU 2019 as well.

Dabo needs to sit down with this guy and tell him he has x amount of weeks to turn this around. And he better do it quick.

Grisham HUGELY dropping the ball here. His guys look the least sharp of any group. Streeter and Caldwell are a close second.

He should go. No top ten program would have hired him. Zero coaching experience. His work product is an eye sore each week.

Said it in another post, but I think Dabo needs to quit trying to build this Clemson coaching tree which is obvious at this point … we can get whoever we want at these diff coaching spots and we chose to give ex Clemson players a chance at one of the biggest programs in the country ?? Who cares if who we hire is gone after 2 years

Agree 100%, Most of them are too busy bashing spiller for “running off rbs” that are clearly on the depth chart not playing for a reason … honestly IMO spiller is the only one on that side of the ball that shouldn’t have to worry about his job at this point

I’m not sure what happened to that group… TE was a very big part of our offense and we literally haven’t had one that even looks like D1 talent since Leggett , don’t understand that at all. The entire WR group unfortunately is just not very talented , they don’t fight for balls, can’t block … then when they do finally have decent balls thrown at em they are dropped. Ajou is the one bright spot to me , while he makes mistakes , when he learns the game and how to play it at the right speed he’s gonna be hard to handle

Honestly, Grisham is one of several under-qualified offensive coaches we have.

Oct 24, 2021, 12:35 AM

Grisham, Spiller, Streeter, and Elliott all had underwhelming credentials when Dabo hired them.

That isn’t to say that they aren’t good coaches, but if Dabo is going to make risky hires then he better be really confident they will work out. Based on what we are seeing this year, those weren’t good hires.

As many here have said all year, it shouldn’t take generational talent to be successful. We are still really talented on offense, but you wouldn’t know it based on their performance this year.

I don’t know how you can say at this point spiller wasn’t a good hire … I agree with the others for sure especially streeter who I don’t think ppl have noticed enough … spiller is going to be a heck of a recruiter at that position and it’s obvious he’s not dealing with the BS which is why guys have left and none were more talented than our top 3 backs … I see improvement from that group which is not the case for almost every other position on offense

I think Spiller was a good hire, simply because of the impact that he can have on recruiting. As far as qualifications though, Judge is right, he is under-qualified as a coach.

When you look at it, Dabo was under-qualified. I hated the hire at the time. I have to wonder if Dabo thinks that he can find more diamonds in the rough just because he was one. Sometimes, the best person to hire is somebody that you haven't met yet.

Grisham, Spiller, and Streeter yes, but you can’t put Elliott in that same group of unknowns. Elliott has done more for the university and athletic department than Brownell has. They both may have gotten stale and need to be evaluated going forward.

Dabo used to do that job, so he knows if it is being done badly.

I gave Grisham a copy of my book. I hope he reads it. He really excited when I presented to him.

I have no idea whether Grisham can coach

Oct 24, 2021, 7:33 AM

but let's be realistic for a moment.

Anyone expecting a stellar day from the WR yesterday is delusional. 4 of the top 5 preseason WR were out. We played Ross, an athletic project in Ajou, 2 true freshmen, and basically a walk on in Brown. That group wasn't beating anyone decent.

I think it's fair to question our recruiting at the position. No one appears to have real burst. All are from the same mold. Some appear to be all star hype but little real instinctive talent.

Grisham has been coach 2 years. We've gone from Tee, Ross, Renfrow and Amari in 2018, to Amari and Powell last year (both performed well under Tyler) to this group, which just by the eye test, is the most limited we've had in a long while.

I agree with this. WR play seems to be a skill issue when it comes to getting separation and actually reeling the ball in. When it comes to blocking, though, I believe the very poor play is reflective of poor coaching.
