The article says TP was neck and next with DJ last season. That statement alone tells you the writer is either clueless or willing to make up stuff to sell his article. The truth is there was no one in the portal who is better than our two walk on QBs and would be willing to ride the pine behind DJ and only had one year of eligibility remaining.
That special QB who fits all three criteria plus was a cultural fit for our program was never available.

There's little doubt that DJ Uia is WAY better than any QB who has been in the portal this cycle. But we all know that Clemson is going to be in a bind at QB depth. I would wagger that we don't see Will Taylor or Bubba Chandler at Clemson. I think Dabo has been hoping a little too much for a miracle waiting for these two baseball prospects to make a decision. But it may be too late now? He should have earlier just told them "Thank you for at least considering Clemson" and went ahead and used the transfer portal. Now he is left without a viable alternative. Maybe a big name will enter the portal late?

I do think Will ends up at Clemson playing both sports, but Helms and Wiles, I think, offer more as QBs. I expect Will to become a very good slot wr down the road. Though walkons, Helms and Wiles were both 3 stars with D1 FBS offers. I think they both can develop into decent options for us with Streeters tutelage and the weapons around them. I think Helms is probably as good as about anyone in the portal. I wouldn't mind adding a 2nd QB in the 2022 class though I think taking two in 2023 is more likely. I think Holdzclaw prob gets a '22 PWO or greyshirt offer. I love his film.

When fall practice starts and QBs see that they are not going to play, there will be an abundance of QBs available. These players will be seniors who would rather ride the pine and may be win a NC than ride the pine and not have a chance to play in the NC game. Patience, I trust Dabo.

I know nothing of his skillset or his attitude/work ethic/etc, but Austin Kendall seems like he should at least get a look if Dabo decides to go that route. Good size, 1 year guy, from Charlotte, etc. A bit of a red flag that this would be his 3rd stop, but who knows what the story is there...
Anyone who knows Dabo should know that Tate Martell has 0 chance of transferring here. He seems to be nothing but trouble, afraid of work, and runs away from any sign of competition.

Kendall would be a great pickup and is our best case scenario. He caught a bad break at OU having Mayfield and Murray in front of him, then Hurts transferring in. No shame in that... His time at WVU was spotty, but he didn’t really have the new coach’s support and the team was kind of a mess.
Yeah, he’s not going to be the starter at Clemson, but he’ll get a lot or playing time in blowouts and surely DJ will get nicked up at some point in the season, at minimum.
He’ll be embraced by Tiger fans from day 1 since we are in dire straits for a backup QB and we’ll appreciate the help. With only 1 year of eligibility it’s not going to be a recruiting or team chemistry issue. Plus, one rolled ankle and he could be the starting QB for a team in the national title mix. He’s clearly not going pro, so this is a pretty good situation for both sides.

He would have been my choice from the get go. There are a lot of compelling reasons that he would want to come here, the least of which is SOME playing time in blowouts vs not even having a school to go to as some of these Portal guys will find.

QBs are in the portal so they can get playing time. Anyone coming to Clemson knows they will be competing to be the number 2 QB. If they wanted to be a 2, they wouldn't have entered the portal.
