Freudian slip? If it is improved then maybe it will also be approved by some of the naysayers. Lol.

I will approve the Offense after we score 40!
The D and special teams are pre-approved!

for a great offensive game!

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it, until proven wrong.

think our defense can play well enough to keep Pitt under 20 points.

Tigers win 31-17.

And outside of the 49 points we put up against S.C .State ,in 5 games our offense has averaged 14.8 points per game. So care to tell me where the other 16.2 points are coming from considering Pitt is probably better than Georgia Tech, Boston College and Syracuse.

If we score 31 points without the defense scoring I will pass out.

I have a good feeling also. I think they have maybe come to the conclusion that they need to establish the run and run the ball and run the ball some more. Shorten the game and help a set up the pass. It is ok to run a well executed QB draw on third and long. Let those O Linemen whip the man in front of them instead of backing up all the time.

But Pitt sells out to stop the run

Oct 21, 2021, 7:29 PM

They’ve had the same head coach for many years and they still have the same philosophy. They are ranked I think in the top 20 in rushing defense this year. Do you remember the 2016 Clemson Pitt game when they beat us? If I remember correctly, Gallman was out for that game, and then Watson had a bad shoulder or some sort of injury. So he couldn’t run the way he usually does. I think Watson may have had one of his highest passing yard totals ever, and we scored something like 42 points. But late in the game they had a third and one and then a fourth and one and couldn’t convert. And that is why they won that game.

So DJ and the receivers are going to have to win the game if we can win it at all. I realize Pickett is having a spectacular year, but he has never played well against Clemson.(8 yards passing in 2018 ACC championship game) Fascinating game. And Clemson doesn’t win then no chance to win their ACC division. Will change the whole course of the season if they lose this game. Let’s hope they can pull it out.

The Tiger defense could not stop the Pitt shuffle pass or whatever that thing was called. CBV did not have an answer for it. I will say this. Whenever other teams tried the same play, the Tiger D swatted it down like a bug.

Yes great memory. You are correct. The shovel pass has never worked since then at least as much as I can remember. In fact Skalsky said the way that he stopped the Georgia Tech shuffle pass earlier this year that preserved the win was because of his memory of what he learned from stopping the shuffle pass after that pit loss. Amazing he goes back that far with our program

They are not in the top 20 rushing defense playing teams like Clemson. They have been averaging about 50 pts on offense. Other teams have not been running the ball. They have been throwing it trying to keep up in scoring. That is why the rushing defense stats look decent. Clemson has got to run the ball to beat them. I cannot draw you a clearer picture. Sorry.

Re: But Pitt sells out to stop the run

Oct 22, 2021, 7:01 AM [ in reply to But Pitt sells out to stop the run ]

The 2016 Pitt team that beat us had Aaron Donald (an under-rated HS player who, similar to Grady Jarrett, developed into a top round NFL draft pick).

Our 2016 team had a lot of inexperience on the OL (including eventual stud John Simpson at one G position (as a sophomore) and Gage Cerevenka at the other G position (as recently-moved-from-DLine new player on the O-Line). These new / in-experienced interior O-Lineman for us were very talented, but not ready to take on a what was very-soon-to-be a NFL star at D-tackle. The results were predictable for our OL vs Pitt's DL, and we lost.

The 2021 Pitt team has good players (experienced) on the DL, but no one close to Aaron Donald. Even with our still-in-development O-Line, we are good enough now (barring another late scratch from one or more of our starting OL) to handle the Pitt D-Line. Again, barring late injury / COVID / other absentees from our starting OL, we beat Pitt on Saturday.

We will perform comparably to Pitt as far as Offense, and we will easily out-perform Pitt as far as Defense.

To be honest, at the beginning of the week I did...

Oct 21, 2021, 8:36 PM

If we had Brian and Tyler I think we would be a favorite to win in my mind even with our offensive struggles.

I just don't see us putting up the 24-31 points it will take to win this game.

We need a 2-3 TO advantage I think to win.
