I guess folks will buy air fresheners and tire shine, but it took trips to 4 auto parts places to find the last 2-1/2 feet of 5/16" hose in Mt pleasant. And in the end, it wasn't even fuel line.

I went to

O'reillys
Advance Auto
Parts Auto (local place)
Napa (they had 2.5' remaining in the store)

The emissions lines are starting to dry rot on my 4runner, so I needed about 1.5' of fuel line to replace one of the vaccuum lines.

Who knew fuel line were made of unobtanium now?

I have no idea why, but I had that same issue with that same

this gentleman by the name of Alexander Graham Bell came up with this technology that could convert vibrations emitted from (primarily) the human vocal cords to an electronic signal. That signal could then be transferred, at the speed of light, to a receiver that converted the signal back to sound emissions for someone on the other side of the wire to hear, right?

He called it the telephone.

Obviously, over time us "top-of-the-food-chain" apes have developed mechanisms it which we can do this without wires and what not...not the point.

The point is, pick up the ####### phone and call someone to see if they got it before you drive all over the cottam place lookin for it, ya gomer.

Of the auto parts store variety over the phone. You have to be in person so you can do the grunts and hand gestures properly.

I tend to doubt it. A dude literally walked into a room filled up with batteries and opened two desk drawers and said "Nope...Billy must have sold the last we had".

Same at Napa--"Carl" asked me what I needed and then he walked around a corner and brought back the last 2.5' of rubber tubing he had. He punched some numbers in a $3 calculator and he said "That's $6.48". I gave him $7.00 cash for a $6.48 bill, and he never even rang it up. There was no receipt.

There was about the same computer interaction/material handling/ERP/MRP access as there would be in "Mee-Maws roadside convenience store" in Bethera.

we did the network strategy

including hub / spoke locations based on volumes to stores within their network. we then design the hubs to be automated based on those locations and volumes. including e-com orders, etc. at least for the 2 that I worked with. All 4 of them are our customers though.

prior to coming here, my consulting role was developing systemic infrastructure to handle order management from the stores up. so I know 2 of them have visibility to what's in the stores and the DCs.

there's a lot more juice to squeeze in being able to execute full network strategy projects given our capability within the 4 walls of the DC. gives me a much juicier ROI to fit (more sales) by consolidating facilities and removing people. add in transportation savings, and I can sell a lot of toilet paper that pays for itself very quickly.

to your point. I stop at inventory receipt into their network. fair challenge in that I'm not involved that far upstream, but once inventory hits my customers' docks, it's mine to play with.

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'd ask what that has to do with buying 5/16" fuel line that someone had stashed

Assuming you mean Parks Auto Parts, gather 'round ye for a fun story.

Went to HS with Christy Parks, who was the daughter of who I assume was the founder of Parks. I just looked out of curiosity and it was actually started in 1961, so probably her grandfather.

Anyway, some HS kids found out her parents were out of town for the weekend and talked her into having a party. I legit don't even remember where this house was, but it was pretty effin' nice, and was quickly overflowing with a bunch of HS kids who were the opposite of nice.

The partial list of property damage that I can recall:

-4 wheeler ended up in the bottom of a deep ditch behind the house
-Wurlitzer jukebox was no longer working (I don't think it was as bad as broken glass or anything, but somebody probably dumped a drink in it)
-nice wine collection had some "samples" removed, no clue on values
-somebody cranked up the airboat (or fanboat, whatever your perferred nomenclature is) in the garage, and engaged the fan hard enough to run the entire trailer it was on into the front wall of the garage

The most vivid memory I have from that party is playing drinking games at the dining room table, sitting across from this girl Collette. I observed Collette not, uh..."looking so well". Nobody else seemed to notice, until she puked what seemed like a gallon of PJ-soaked content on the table. I remember being frozen for a few seconds as the wave of pinkish-purple french fries rolled across the table towards me. It stopped about 2" from the edge of the table and my lap.

Cops showed up at school on Monday and pulled a bunch of people out of class. I assume I wasn't named since I didn't take part in the property destruction. I don't remember if anybody saw Christy Parks the rest of the school year. Her parents might have pulled her out of school or something.
