Good news, we won. Better news, I doubt we see Clawson again.

Seriously, I don't know how this dude hasn't been snatched up before. UT should have grabbed him when they fired Butch, but the Hillbillies HATED him when he was the OC for Fat Phil that one year. Yeah, cuz he was at fault smh. But if schools like Nebraska, GT, or others don't throw the WHOLE bag at him than I'm highly suprised. Dude is and always has been a heck of a coach. Annnnd then Wake goes back to being Wake, pretty good, bowl worthy team every 4-5 years.

If he were to go to GT we most certainly will see him again.

Haha... Darn good point, and not comforting with ATL talent as another poster has already pointed out. But the point remains, someone should really lay out the blank check.

GT is too much of a side grade. If he leaves it’ll be for a bigger program.

I expect teams like Nebraska and auburn to go after a big name

Sep 25, 2022, 12:57 PM

Kind of guy. Sad I used to know what’s going on at auburn but they are so irrelevant now. How long has their coach been there now?

Only year 2, but while I thought he was a good coach he has made a lot of mistakes there imo. He's gone this year imo unless he wins out and that means beating Bama...Good luck.

No way he would leave Wake for Ga. Tech.

I apologize, I may have hit the flag button. Sometimes this site and mobile don't always mesh as well as a Wake play ??

Yeah here is hoping he leaves the ACC. Would prefer we not tangle with him every year.

We will not have to every year. Only play them twice every 4 years starting next year. On the schedule next year though.

I mean...does anyone know IF Clawson wants to leave WF?

I've been thinking the same the last few years that he should have been in line for some bigger gig but...maybe the Clawson is satisfied with where he is at and built at WF.

Honestly, if he doesn't leave after this year, IDK would make him leave WF.
  • Last year and this year are the best WF teams I've seen since the Riley Skinner days when WF rose up and won the ACC in 2006.
  • That extra covid year is doing WONDERS for teams like WF where they typically depend on developing talent for a run at a conference title

I think he is a lot like Grobe

    Sep 25, 2022, 2:27 PM

Sure he could leave, has a good thing going at Wake. Wake has historically (ok, recent history past 20 years or so) been a competitive to extremely competitive team every four years. Get the 2 stars and a few threes and build them up. He’s got that number up to where they are no longer a pushover any year by ACC standards.

He can afford to be selective if/when he leaves. Basically an ACC Pat Fitzgerald. Of course, I could be FoS and dude bolts end of the year.

    He’s an outstanding coach.

    Sep 25, 2022, 2:32 PM

He had no business fielding a competitive team against us based on the significant talent disparity. We have tons of 4-5 star guys, and he had no 5 stars and only a few 4 star guys if I remember correctly.

They are a legitimate top 20 team this year and I hope he gets the credit he deserves for that.

    Well said.

In an alternate reality, I’d like to see what he could do at Stanford or UCLA.

    I agree Devil Dog. jarheadtiger®

Clawson with talent = uh oh! The man is a really good coach that squeezes the most out of what he has to work with.
Some SEC school or perhaps Texas or Texas A&M will ###### him up.

How is not seeing him at Wake good news? Do we not want good coaches in the ACC to strengthen the level of competition? Loosing Clawson to another conference is a big loss to the ACC. I hope Wake pays him and he stays. Yesterdsy was cardiac game but was also an instant classic and will show up as one of the top games of 2022

I dont disagree. That said he is a really good coach and I would kind of like to see what he could do with the resources of somewhere like a UCLA, or other blue bloodish type school.
