Didn't watch the SEC love fest by ESPN today, but

May 2, 2013, 3:42 PM

Deptula just said the VP of ESPN when talking about the SEC was saying WE, WE, WE. Also when asked about how the big 10 network hasn't been that great, the VP said o no, we're the SEC and light years ahead of the Big 10.

So my question is should the ACC leave ESPN and go to fox? They have the best BBall conference in basketball, so they have pull

good luck with those Auburn-Miss State basketball games

May 2, 2013, 4:21 PM

I don't get what the SEC Network will have to offer that is so, so amazing....

the big football games (Bama-LSU, Fla-UGA, etc)will already be on CBS/ESPN.

So do you wanna subscribe to this network to watch Vandy-Navy and Ole Miss-Memphis football games? Or replays of other games during the week? Not.

Their basketball minus Kentucky and Florida is pathetic. LSU-Alabama basketball? Meh. The ACC is leaps and bounds better in hoops, which is the main filler for a conference network. Unless you like Arkansas track or something.

Sure, just like

May 2, 2013, 4:44 PM

Clemson fans would watch anything Clemson if it was on such a network.

That's sort of the way it works.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Even if you don't subscribe, You will pay for it...

If you subscribe to cable tv, and if your cable company picks up the SEC channel as a package option, and even if you do not pick up that channel as an option, your basic bill will increase as the cable company charges everyone a small portion of the cost.

I can't tell you how ticked I was when I found I was living in the south and being forced to fund the Big Ten Network.

One of the reasons i cut cable and went with a roku player.

I have ways of watching anything i used to watch with a little bit of effort.

Good point on the hoops content. I hadn't thought about it from that aspect.

Leaving ESPN would be the dumbest thing the ACC or really

May 2, 2013, 4:38 PM

any conference should do IMO.

ESPN is the mothership for sports and I'm glad we are a part of it.

This SEC stuff is obviously a little much but it's the best football conference right now. Everything goes in cycles.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'd love for the ACC to hook on with Fox, NBC, TNT, Cartoon

May 2, 2013, 5:17 PM

Network...####...anyone but ESecPN. It is truly perplexing as to why they are in bed together...ESPN doesn't even pretend to not be biased in everything they do.

This is hilarious on so many levels.

For one, ESPN has saved our helped your conference multiple times in the last 2-3 years. They helped add Syracuse, Pitt, and it wouldn't surprise me if they recommended Notre Dame or Louisville. They upped your contract significantly and helped you secure a grant of rights, so for that you should be thankful.

Until this announcement, ESPN paid more to the ACC than they did to the SEC.

The ACC is free to make their own network. ESPN would likely make a very similar deal with them. It might be slightly less, but they would use all bells and whistles. Even the word "we". This will probably happen within a year or two anyway.

The level of butthurt is so ridiculous. Keep thinking ESPN is plotting against you despite all the help they give the ACC. All fear the evil EsecPN.

didnt the sec already have their own network before today called espn. guess the addition will allow a few more minor sports and replays to take place. nothing much else will change. every college football show is already very sec heavy. just more money handed down to the sec from espn to keep their baby well fed.

What was called the SEC Network was really just the conference selling a 3rd tier game to local stations. For example South Carolina/ECU was sold by the conference to NBC/ABC to air in a few select markets.

The new thing is a full fledged network like ESPNU or the Big Ten Network

At the end of the day its just a new network that gives a little more money. Expect the ACC to follow suit in a year or so, if not less

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So does this mean all the SEC blah, blah, blah will be

May 2, 2013, 9:00 PM

moved to the new SEC network, freeing up airtime for something other than SEC on ESPN? I wonder if ESPN will have enough stuff to talk about to keep the channel up and running.

Re: Didn't watch the SEC love fest by ESPN today, but

May 2, 2013, 9:11 PM

This is all cyclical...The ACC will have its day in the sun again (as will other conferences.) There will come a time where the conference will dominate the head-to-head matchups and all of the talking heads will change their tune...Why? B/C they have 3 and 4 hour blocks of time to spout off and try to make a name for themselves...The SEC is enjoying that run now ~ Good for them. I'm excited about UGA coming to town for the first game...All the SEC-hype. These guys have won the coveted East Title the past couple of years so if we knock them off we'll start really feeling the love.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That ship has sailed

May 2, 2013, 9:29 PM

Leaving ESPN isn't an option for 12 years so it does no good to think about Fox or anyone else.
