Going to BC need recommendations...

Nov 4, 2018, 10:26 PM

Flying up Friday night. Where should we stay? Where should we tailgate? Meter is not running so please just send some legitimate advise. Go tigers!

decided tonight to do my part... and?

Nov 4, 2018, 10:41 PM

I know you have been on tnet a long time... so have I. I am guessing you are old enough to know that work and family doesn’t always allow you to go with a best bud to an away game... but if you get the green light at the last moment, take it. So, again, anyone with good BC knowledge Have any suggestions?

GO Tigers, I can’t wait to watch us clench another Atlantic.

Subway gets you close to stadium

Nov 4, 2018, 10:29 PM

Can practically stay anywhere in Boston. Lots of great options. I’d prefer somewhere in city so you can walk around.

I don’t tailgate much at BC. Typically try to soak up as much of city as possible, then head to stadium. Hope others can help you.

Re: Going to BC need recommendations...

Nov 4, 2018, 10:46 PM

My wife & I went last time we played there, and we had a great time. Lots of history in Boston, and lots of great sea food places to eat. Their fans were very nice, but college FB is not their top priority. They like the PT’s more, IMO, but they got their arses handed to them that year. They may have higher expectations this year. They shouldn’t, though. I predict another beat down, but it will be fun to be there to watch it. The stadium is nice, though, and you will enjoy watching us demonstrate, yet again, just how good this team is.

thanks!

Nov 4, 2018, 10:49 PM

Where did you and your wife tailgate? I think I remember hearing that some of the bars on the subway stops before the stadium are good, but I don’t remember specifics. Definately going to see some sights before the game

Re: thanks!

Nov 4, 2018, 11:35 PM

We did go to a couple of nice bars, but we “tailgated” at our son’s friend’s penthouse condo overlooking the Boston Harbour. It was beautiful, food was great and the condo was so beautiful. Very different from “Clemson Tailgating “, but we had great fun. Their fans were very nice. Not at all like Clemson, though.

Re: Going to BC need recommendations...

Nov 4, 2018, 11:08 PM

I’d recommend staying in the Back Bay Area or around the Boston Commons. That way you’re right on the green line of the T that will take you right out to BC. Boston’s a great trip. Lots to do and see in the city and I’ve found the fans at BC to be good people. Boston is a very walkable city, and the T is convenient. If you’re just staying in the city proper and using the T to get to BC you won’t need to bother renting a car. Make sure to walk the Freedom Trail while you’re up there. I’m looking forward to seeing what College GameDay is like at BC.

Great advice thanks.

Nov 4, 2018, 11:10 PM

We stayed at the Marriott Copley Square

We took the train up to Chestnul Hill

We ate and tailgated at Cityside sports bar.

It is a bit of a trek around the lake if it cold

We also tailgated with people that we invited to our tailgate
They were set up inside the stadium Parkin building

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

the locals kept asking us why all the Clemson folks were in

Nov 4, 2018, 11:49 PM

Boston in 2016. There was orange everywhere. We said to play BC. They thought that was weird. We said we play them every year since BC is in our division in the ACC. And invariably they would say “BC is in the ACC?”

They genuinely seemed perplexed and then would say they hope we beat them. Odd home town crowd.

Re: Going to BC need recommendations...

Nov 4, 2018, 11:12 PM

Definitely stay in the city and try to take in some of the sites if you can. The easiest way to get to the game is the T. Parking there is a pain. Tailgating isn't very good. I think the lots are only open for 2 hours before and 1 hour after the game, but haven't been there since the 2016 game so I could be wrong. The Alumni club is always hosting events at Central Wharf on Milk Street in the city. Near the aquarium. If you take the green line to Cleveland Circle, there's bars there and it's just a walk around the reservoir to the campus.

If you get a chance go to Little Italy, near the old North Church. It’s some of the best Italian food I have ever eaten. There must be like 20 restaurants all in a row.

Late night game - taking the T

Nov 5, 2018, 12:28 AM

Stay in a hotel near Copley Square or the Hynes Convention Center near the Green Line.

Keep in mind the Green Line has a B C D and E train. Each train goes from center of the city to different locations so be aware of which train you board. Given the 8:00pm kickoff this late in the year, the B train Boston College stop is closest to the stadium. There are a couple small deli/pizza places at the stop. The trains stop running around midnight so don't hang around the stadium long after the game.

The last stop on the C Cleveland Circle train has a couple bars but it is a long cold walk around a large lake you don't want to take at 11:30pm.

There won't be a large tailgate scene for an 8:00pm November night game, so spend your day in the city and eat before you come out to campus. If you are looking for a popular sports bar, the Cask & Flagon near the Kenmore Square stop is recommended. It's across the street from Fenway Park.

Have fun.

Re: Going to BC need recommendations...

Nov 5, 2018, 12:40 AM

I stayed at the Residence Inn right by Fenway park field, when I took an X GF and a few friends to our last game up there. (125 Brookline Ave, Boston, MA 02215 - got an awesome deal online.) Maybe Hotwire or one of those booking sites.

Btw, it was über cold in their stadium for the night game. Dress warmly or obviously check the weather.

You could also, Check and see if the T (their subway line) runs from here direct to the stadium. We drove my buddies car. Maybe save some dough $.

Hope this helps...

Also our people usually sit... between rows A-E if possible. Also, BB-FF. The stadium is not as big as Death Valley so there isn’t a terrible seat in most spots. I got suuuper cheap tickets (which I normally never do) in the end zone and still enjoyed us laying +50pts on them when they were self proclaimed a top 5 Defense in the country.

Sorry, but the whole stadium looked like a prep high school football field. Small. I was shocked how small in comparison it seemed to even NC state’s stadium.

Have a good time. The BC fans were nice, until Ben B.ware almost flipped their QB with an open field tackle. Other than that... nice campus.

Went to a bar, that served chinese food ...(?) for dinner.

Haha
Have a safe trip and enjoy!

I’ve been to Fenway for a game and stayed near mit. Sister and her husband live in providence for the moment and are N.C. state grads but cheer for clemson bc of me and my sisters dad who graduated in 81. Been going to games since I was little. Coached muse in hs baseball. Anyway flying in providence dice friend buddy lives there and we driving in Boston. But tailgating my sisters co worker mom works at bc and has us a pass. Not sure on the rules but she says can’t walk in lots to tailgate with a case of beer or anything it has to be already in the car and no glass. Not sure on if certain lots or it’s all lots but I’m hoping we are right behind the stadium on the baseball field if they still do that I’ve read about. Go tigers look for the muse jersey!

Thoughts on Boston

Nov 5, 2018, 6:14 AM

First question... Game only or sight seeing too. Boston is expensive for hotels, an Airbnb near Chestnut Hill will save $. Use Uber, in my opinion, except from airport where the Silver line is free. If you go on the T, you'll be on the green line.

I think Seaport is very interesting now with all the new development. It's on the water. If you have time, walk the freedom trail. Closer the Chestnut Hill, Brighton is eclectic and Newton is more traditional suburb. Brookline has quite a few really good restaurants.

For tailgating, think cold-warm-cold. So after gameday, do some sight seeing and get warm.

The food around Boston is incredible. Italian, seafood, etc. Or in Brookline, things like Japanese BBQ, etc

The cold eats at you, but remember the saying 'There is no bad weather, only bad clothes'. Warm socks are the most important to me.

If you like craft beer I highly recommend visiting Trillium Brewing on Thomson in the Four Points area http://www.trilliumbrewing.com/fortpoint It just opened a couple weeks ago and is an incredible space and their cans fly home very easily in checked baggage ;) Also a bit of advice about the T, check ahead of time to make sure the one you need is running. While there a few weeks back there were some maintenance issues on a couple of the lines that were causing big delays

The New England Clemson club is having a big tailgate. Google them for info.

Also, here’s a thread with lots of good info.

A few suggestions

Nov 5, 2018, 6:44 AM

Stay in the city...more $$$ but gives you plenty of walking options Friday night and then Saturday before the game.

This link will give you plenty of info...the New England Clemson Club is great:
https://neclemsonclub.com/announcements?fbclid=IwAR0OgRKAVVUHB1ze5UpGyQfVIvZlX4tYCD7gQnk0OSh80lB4oblOsD5WpTk

Clemson get together Friday night is at Central Wharf (details in link).

On Saturday, don't plan to tailgate in Chestnut Hill...very limited. Take the T Line: Chestnut Hill is a stop on the MBTA Green Line "D" Branch, located off Hammond Street north of Massachusetts Route 9 in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Newton, Massachusetts.

Best bar/restaurant in Chestnut Hill is Cityside Bar....a 1 mile walk to stadium and right at the T Line stop....but it will be packed.

If you have time in Boston...here are some suggestions:
Things to do:

Walking tour of Freedom Trail in city
Take a Duck Tour
Tour Fenway Park
Tour Sam Adams, Harpoon Brewery, or one of our many other craft breweries
Get a drink at the Top of the Hub
Get a cannoli at Mike's Pastry

Wear orange and support the Tigers!

I would take the Green Line to Boston College stop. It is only 1/4 mile from the stadium.

Note that out west of Boston, the Green Line splits into three lines. So be careful to get on the right train.

Re: Going to BC need recommendations...

Nov 5, 2018, 7:06 AM

Tips about Boston:

1) don’t rent a car. Find hotel in Boston next to T station and ride T everywhere

2) on game day don’t take the B line to Boston College. Take the D line to Chestnut Hill and exit off to Hammond Street. On Hammond take a right on Stone Ave or Resevoir Ave and it will take you right to the stadium. It’s a little further walk but way less crowded, especially on the way back after the game. I printed off a google map and put in my pocket in case my phone died.

Make sure that line will still run after the game since it’s an 8 pm Kickoff.

Here is an odd suggestion.

Nov 5, 2018, 7:10 AM

The thing I remember most about my one trip to Boston is Paul Revere's house. It's really tiny compared to what I thought it would be. If the family is going, that might be a good choice.
