Goal Line Stands Under Coach V

First off, I’m really happy for Coach V. He deserves everything he has coming to him. I wish him and his family well, and hope he goes 14-1 every year.
I’ve been thinking about the awesome Ds, stats, players, and so forth we’ve had the pleasure of witnessing over the past ten years. Also got to thinking about the tough-as-nails goal line stands we’ve had to win games. How many would you guess there were?
By my count, surprisingly, only six.
Clemson 23, Louisville 17 (2014) – Big man DeShawn Williams batted down the pass on fourth and goal from the two with 21 seconds left.
Clemson 24, Notre Dame 22 (2015) – We brought our own guts and stuffed the two point try with seven seconds remaining. Boulware flipped out over this play.
Clemson 42, Louisville 36 (2016) – James Quick caught the fourth down pass from the Heisman Trophy winner (hocch-ptooey!), but should have cut inside. Marcus Edmond knocked him out of bounds one yard short of the first down at the three with 33 seconds left.
Clemson 21, North Carolina 20 (2019) – Sam Howell for some reason ran an option on the two-point attempt with 77 seconds remaining. Stuffed.
Clemson 14, Georgia Tech 8 (2021) – Tech had first and goal at the three with thirty seconds left and three timeouts. Incomplete, complete for one yard, rush for one yard, complete for no gain.
Clemson 30, Louisville 24 (2021) – The Cardinals had first and goal at the two with 1:01 remaining. Rush for zero, rush for a loss of three, rush to get the three back, sacked by Skalski.
And how many did we lose because we had a failed goal line stand?
Zero.
Thanks, Coach V. Live long and prosper.

He made some amazing stands as you pointed out but I have to correct you on zero times failing a goal line stand. I’m not sure of the overall number but I know we lost the NC State game this year at the very least. We had a 7 point lead in overtime and NC State had 1st and goal from the 3 and eventually scored the tying touchdown before going on to win the game.

Also lost Notre Dame in 2020. 2nd and Goal from the 3 and we let up a score to go to a 2nd OT.
Alabama in the national championship in 2015 might also count. Needed to hold them to a FG to keep it within 1 score with 1 minute remaining and we gave up the TD on 3rd and Goal from the 1

Another was last year at ND when they hit the long pass and then scored at the end of regulation. But, far more stops than not.

down that last goal line stand. Kendall Joseph stuff. CW takes the wicked angle and then the entire D gets in on the last play and Tua never had a chance. Cle got to him first.
Not a stance to win the game, but fun nontheless.

I'm literally depressed over this today. I know it's just a game, but Brent was one of my favorite coaches of all time. Taking the OU job was a simple career decision, but man am I going to miss that dude.
