ARMY ALL THE WAY! Mentioned the other day about my

Dec 10, 2022, 5:45 AM

Dad's and my service as Army Officers.

Another interesting tidbit: my Texan Mother had seven brothers and sisters, including four brothers. The oldest and youngest couldn't serve during WWII. However, of the six sons and sons-in-law (including my Dad,) three were Army, three were Navy with three each in the Pacific and three in the European Theater. All were in on major invasions, and all survived the war.

We visited south Texas every summer, and when all were together, not once do I recall any conversations about their service nor complaints. They maintained an humble dignity and honor, yet they were not men you crossed. 20 years later, when I departed for service in Europe, then the Far East, my folks had a stoic attitude, asserting that that was my duty. Some years later, asking my Mother about their attitude, she simply said, "Well, the Army didn't pay for your education nor train you to sit around drinking and gambling!" lol

To this day I am deeply grateful for the privilege of serving our nation and grateful to the Army for what that service meant to me.
