Give credit when it's due... The offense was a lot better

Oct 3, 2021, 12:37 AM

tonight then it's been the prior 4 weeks. This type of performance would have beaten NC State.

- The Offensive line was improved. Maybe moving Bockhorst to RG was the trick?

- DJ looked better. Still plenty of mistakes, but a much needed step forward.

- O Line blocking and running by RB's were much improved.

- WR did better, especially blocking downfield.

- Dabo showed fire that he hadn't showed the last 4 weeks. It made a difference too!!

Of course, shout out to the Defense for holding up. You just can't lose 2 of the best players and still put up those kinda performances. Of course, the Offense moving the ball helped them from getting gassed too. Much more complimentary to each other.

I've been highly critical, especially on Offense, but I have to give credit to the team. They made mistakes, play calling was better, execution was much better (especially on O Line) and the guys just showed more emotion and fight.

Now, he's to hoping they continue to grow and take steps in the off week, and weeks to come.

I was watching the game that showed us gaining 438 yards tonight, with both 200+ in passing, and 200+ in rushing.

We shot our foot in the red zone, and on 3rd a few times, but we took a BIG step in the right direction tonight in Offensive efficiency.

Ray Charles could see we were better tonight on offense than we have been.

Yep. Exactly what we couldn't do in prior weeks.

As the team matures, many of those FG becomes TD's.

Statistically he is spot on point ... unfortunately stats

do not always result in scores.

Our run game was definitely much improved and our OL made it happen.

Would have love to see what would have happened if we’d have fed Mafah a lot more.

Our passing game continues to be woeful and we have little to lose by leaning more heavily on the two RBs.

I agree with everything except the play calling. First series or so kept them off balance a little, then back to crazy predictable.

Offensive line played like garbage, but tonights "C" game was better than the "D" games they have played, so I guess technically they were better. Centers rolling the snap to the QB is inexcusable

DJ is slow and throws to the ground.

WR's aren't holding blocks. Too many 3-5 yard screens would go 10+ yards if they'd hold the block another half second. This could go back to plays taking too long to develop.

Dabo always shows fire on tv and in interviews. I'm beginning to think he shows none at practice.

Defense balled out, but Venables played too loosey goosey at the end. Willing to give up 7-8 yard plays at the end of games and tighten it up in the red zone isn't going to cut it long term.

F right off with that nonsense.

Ain't nobody crowning them tonight. But if you can't see they took a step in the right direction and showed fight doing, then I can't help you.

Respect

Oct 3, 2021, 1:08 AM

And to your points, I'll offer..

Overwhelmingly, DJ's passes, when off target, are high.

WR's blocking tonight was much better than it's been the last 4 weeks. Hence my message. They still have work to do.

Dabo didn't show any emotion last week vs NC State until the 5th time our Defense jumped offside. I made this very comment last week. I was actually very upset with his lack of emotion during the game. I was relieved to see him chewing some ref's a$$e$ tonight. About time...

For the end, I freaked out a little, but realized he is going to keep things in front of him in those situations and play to his strengths. Veneables knows his strength is playing calling in the red zone, with less field to cover. (See Ohio State in 2019, or Bama in 2018). Game plan was keep things in front, and and shut them down in Red zone. Statistically, he did the right thing, as unnerving as it is.

Oct 3, 2021, 12:21 PM

Well which is it? You are confusing… ranting about the folks who are concerned about the pitiful display on offense and then ranting about what is wrong with the offense!

Oline was better. RB's better. Wouldn't say that about

the rest.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep ... agree.

Oct 3, 2021, 12:54 AM

I wish we’d ditch the passing game and go to a more concentrated run game behind Pace and Mafah.

I know that’s “not who we are”, but dang who we are right now is not who we want to be anyway.

Re: Give credit when it's due... The offense was a lot better

Oct 3, 2021, 7:03 AM

The offense wasn't better at all. We were playing unranked scrubs. When we ran for that long TD their middle line backer had no clue what to do and was completely out of position. He looked like a kicker trying to play safety. The fact this game was even close is embarrassing.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Give credit when it's due... The offense was a lot better

Oct 3, 2021, 7:18 AM

I agree 100%. And the defense was worse. Don't get me wrong, they played to their full potential but we are just shoret too many pieces on defense. As far as Dabo's fire, the only thing I saw him get fired up about was the roughing the passer call. He dang well should have gotten jacked up about that. He should have gotten thorown out of the game over it, I would have. That's the worse call I've seen thi year. The rest of Dabo is the same old narrative, we are who we are and anyone trying to suggest otherwise can suck it. I like the part about, "we ain't going nowhere". We don't want him to go anywhere, we want him to do something.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Moved the ball better but settled for too many FGs

Oct 3, 2021, 7:21 AM

Need more than 19 pts on 450 yards of offense.

Re: Give credit when it's due... The offense was a lot better

Oct 3, 2021, 8:45 AM

I'll sign on to your Give Praise Wagon.
Without the defense (banged up as it is) this would have been an embarrassing loss.
The last 6 minutes sums it up: Defense stops two good drives that came close, real close, to scoring. Gets the ball back to offense and they can't make a first down. The defense has to save the game again, with a stop, and thankfully a fumble.
The BC QB, 2nd on the depth chart, played to win. Thankfully, again our defense saved the day. Again.

The biggest improvement that I could see was the 13 points our kicker made… the rest looked pretty much the same
