Gilbert

Mar 7, 2022, 10:15 AM

Is Gilbert hurt or was Monte holding him this weekend in order to let him start one of the midweek games? Turns out we didn't really need him against the Coots.

Yea I was wondering. Lindley and Dill have been good. Outside of yesterday Alex Edmondson has been great. Billy Barlow has been our week day starter but we do have 2 week games this week. So he may very well be starting. For monte to have that foresight into not needing Gilbert this weekend is pretty impressive.

He tore off his arm at the shoulder two weeks ago, but they reattached it and he's in rehab. Should be ready to go in about 2 more weeks.

Unsure if joking or not. Did he legitimately injure his shoulder? That seems to be more likely than Monte holding him for Michigan State.

Why would it be so unlikely. With 5 games in 6 days,I don't think Monte would go blindly into that situation without a plan. We will see what it is

Beating USuC is normally a lot harder than beating Michigan State. Therefore it's more likely that Gilbert did not pitch this weekend due to a shoulder injury than it would be that Monte was holding him out of the USuC series to pitch against Michigan State.

I agree with this. But the bullpen has a whole has been doing outstanding. If you move Gilbert to a midweek starter I think it benefits the team. The only way that’s possible is if the bullpen is doing great though. We struggled in midweek games last year and it cost us. We have some tough midweek games coming up. I would love to beat UGA. They got us the last couple of times we played.
