GameDay Experience from a Visitors Perspective

Oct 22, 2012, 4:32 PM

Sorry to see some negative posts about VT fans below. My experince was the opposite. Was treated with respect by Tigers before, during , and after the game. Experienced great interaction all day long. Hope Tigers realize how similar the 2 schools and their respective fan bases are. Tailgated in Lot 13 until Coots game was over.

Will avoid posting about the game, other than a Tip of the Hat for a well deserved W.

Considerring the election season, one of my favorite moments was the crowd (both fan bases) reaction to the Induction Ceremony at halftime. Cheering protecting the Constitution, booing the present president, but yet cheering following Commanding Officer orders (including the President's). That was one of the few opportunities any of us have to truly experience a crioss section of the public.

Second favorite was Danny R recognition before 3rd Qtr. Both fan bases were cheering him.

Hope Tajh is OK. Wish Danny R well. Was he aware that the air support pilots were going to be there?

We tailgated with Hokies last year. They provided us a parking pass, food, etc. We did the same for them this year. Had a blast. Such a terrific group of fans.

In laws are big time Hokie fans and ticket holders from Christiansburg. Many Hokie fans sat behind us ...had good discussions, very complimentary. Very similiar programs and universities. We need your help on Thursday night when you host FSU....looks like our last opportunity..

They still have to get by Duke (tic?)***

Found the Hokie fans that came to town to be great

Oct 22, 2012, 5:44 PM

Supportive of their team and friendly... Also good sports. Saw a lot of them at the Esso after the game, numbing down the loss.

That is one thing I take great pride in

as a Tiger . Being gracious as a host. I can't count the number of times I have been on the ADA bus going back to the car and an opposing fan raves about the experience.

even back in the 70's/80's UGA fans were most appreciative, almost to the point of being emarrassed

Maybe Ron Cheery could have changed our overall experience!***

most happy to be away from a subhuman environment

TCU fans years ago could not believe the hospitality either. Amazing, as you tail gate and they walk past and you invite them to join. Not something most visitors expect.

repeatedly poked with an umbrella by an elderly lady walking out of the game in 1980...He turned to see who was poking him, saw it was a little old lady and turned around. She continued poking him until his mother saw what was going on and skewered her one time with HER umbrella...Then it stopped...That kind of behavior would be unacceptable at Clemson...Yet several UGA fans watched the spectacle and turned a blind eye...That is UGA fans in a nutshell...Even worse than SCU fans...

Cheering or booing during the Induction was inappropriate.

Oct 22, 2012, 6:16 PM

The Induction is an Oath taken by those present who were being inducted into the US Armed Forces. It wasnt for benefit of the crowd to pick and choose what part of the Induction Oath they liked or disliked.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sadly, I was not able to be there

Oct 22, 2012, 6:18 PM

but, as I said yesterday, I was embarressed .

Absolutely beneath us.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The fans I encountered were horrible.

Oct 22, 2012, 8:53 PM

I'm a student, but I stood in the WEZ . A group of about four Hokies were rather rude, pushing me out of the way and standing in front of me. I finally grabbed one by the shoulder and pushed him to the side. They continued to run their mouths, trying to get me to respond. I just walked off.

Trying to be a lady with those fools was tough, but I managed. The security did nothing to help either.

Own less, do more.

Re: The fans I encountered were horrible.

Same here when walking back to our car a group of them rode by and kept talking trash to us and other Clemson fans. Then when we got back to our car the guy parked next to us was a hokie fan and almost backed into us and then sped off giving us dirty looks. The fans behind us in the stadium were ok for the most part though.
