Future of the transfer portal?

What do you envision it looks like 5 years from now? I almost think it's on overdrive/wild west mode right now because it's new and there are countless players with their extra Covid year who aren't quite good enough for the NFL, but looking for better opportunity. It's easy to say it's the end of college football, so I'm not buying that. College football is a cash cow and will keep going. So do you think there are more rules and regulations put in? Does it turn into an official bidding war with live coverage? Does it go away because of too few regulations?

NIL and maybe even the portal deal exists b/c of savvy lawyers..................it's not going to change. It's only going to get tougher for Clemson that doesn't have unlimited funds like Texas, Ohio State, SoCal, bama, Oregon, etc....

We've been behind the 8 ball with them for a very long time. The sheer size of alumni base they have puts them in a different league for TV contracts and fundraising dollars.
Let's be real - the NIL and portal exist in its current form because the NCAA wanted to have a strangle hold on the income and refused to modernize. They just stuck their head in the sand and pretended nothing was happening. Instead of thinking forward into the future and planning out a way to make this work - they did nothing. So now everything changed in one off season and its a cluster.

limitations established it's going to get further out of control. Folks are just scratching the surface of how to use/abuse it. Problem in limiting it is going to be the courts. Once that right to earn was established, that's going to be hard to roll back

I anticipate feeling like Clemson is in the third tier of teams in terms of talent. And the top 25 will be close to a mirror image of the wealthiest alumni bases. So Texas and Texas ATM will be significantly more talented than schools like Clemson.

Give it a couple of years and players will be able to transfer and play for their new team within the same season, will be just like NFL football, there doesn't seem to be anyway to control it going foward.

I don't know how it will look in 5 years, only that there are only so many positions on a team so you can't get every player who enters ,or the Alabama's of the world can't recruit ,or sign every player who enters the portal. If anything I think there does need to be some rules and regulations, but I also wonder if the NCAA, for instance, is going to be the future of college sports, and the body who implements these regulations. Time will tell.

The transfer portal is a mechanism to facilitate a student-athlete’s transfer. Football, m/w basketball, ice hockey and baseball student-athletes previously had to sit a year after transferring. Now, they don’t - just once. Portal allows the student-athlete to further control his/her destiny. It is a great tool. The player has a choice of next destination. It was wrong to treat the high revenue athlete differently. I know lots of student-athletes are languishing in portal but it was their decision.

It'll be controlled by those teams willing to contact players, with no thoughts of transfer, and offering NIL (or whatever) money to enter the portal and come play for them.
Too many players have entered and not been offered by other teams, so I think I'll die down to a certain extent, but top players will still enter and know where they are going prior to entering.
