Chris Fowler: Clemson is elite and isn't going anywhere

There is no disputing the fact that the Clemson football is in great shape. Let’s face it, it’s a good time to be a Tiger fan, and ESPN analysts Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit thinks the Tigers are here to stay.

Some posters seem to have their own agenda! While I do not always agree with some ESPIN personnel, this article is actually positive in nature and I for one think it will foster even greater interest in Clemson.

Go Tigers!

where did this idea that Boulware was not

Jan 6, 2017, 2:19 PM

a decent recruit come from? The dude was an Under Armor All American, 4 star recruit. No, he wasn't number 1 at his position, but dang, only 1 person is.

Re: where did this idea that Boulware was not

Jan 6, 2017, 3:49 PM

Plus Ben wasn't highly recruited by Clemson bc of Keven Steele, and Ben's talents didn't pass Steele's eye test or his screwed up P O S defensive scheme, and Steele's scheme didn't fit WV offensive scheme either!!! Lucky for us Dabo saw that Steele didn't fit Clemson, and Ben did fit BV's defensive scheme!!!

Agree with him except for the "barely recruited players"

Jan 6, 2017, 2:40 PM

Gallman and Boulware were both four star players. Gallman had offers from schools like UGA, Ole Miss, GT, and Oklahoma, and Boulware was the 8th ranked Inside LB in the country with offers all over the place. Yeah, they weren't five starts but only 20ish guys are every year. Otherwise, he's spot on.

True, but I think he just meant that our whole 2 deep isn't necessarily all blue chippers. It seems like Alabama doesn't havea single guy who was below the top 5 at their position coming out of school.

Mr Fowler obviously doesn't read FGF

One KEY element rarely mentioned in our recent success

Jan 6, 2017, 4:01 PM

Is the change in leadership on the BOD and our University President. Clements has made a tremendous difference in our football program. Baker was not a big believer in sports and the impact it can have on a university. Clements, in my humble opinion, has been instrumental to our success, especially Clemson Football.

Re: One KEY element rarely mentioned in our recent success

Jan 6, 2017, 10:07 PM

Barker was fine with sports. He was an athlete for petes sake. He was in office when the West End Zone was started. His big push was always to become a top 20 university in all things.

Athletically the big change was on the BOT. They started spending some money, supporting the AD, and Dabo's plan took off together.

tremendous diff in how Barker perceived athletics and how clements does. clements, for example, is much more active in meeting recruit/families. yes, barker was an athlete, but his support of our athletic programs was tepid at best.

It's easy to forget how young 18 years old is...

Jan 6, 2017, 5:42 PM

But these are very young men coming out of high school and they (and their parents) don't want to land in a football machine. It makes sense that they want a new family around them. And like CF said, if Dabo wasn't sincere about it, it wouldn't work.

When did "elite" become such a big thing?

Jan 6, 2017, 5:43 PM

Can't schools just have a good run? I guess OU and Nebraska used to be "elite". Now they're just another also ran from the Big 12. I guess Norte Dame isn't "elite" anymore?
