FSU fans look down on Clemson as if they have always

Oct 14, 2013, 9:15 AM

been great. They have forgotten their own history. They were still a girl's school when Clemson had already won its first conference titles and bowl games.

If Ford had not been let go in January 1990 then Clemson would have competed with FSU for the ACC during the 90's and 00's. We had the coaches, we had the players, and we had Death Valley. Ken Hatfield destroyed a great CFB program by his missteps in recruiting and coaching.

Finally after 2003 Clemson began to bounce back. Beating FSU the last 5X in Death Valley should be the norm for a national program that had John Heisman as its coach, has won the national championship, has won tons of conference championships and has had many All Americans and NFL players. I respect what FSU did in the past (90's-00's) but there is no reason to look down on Clemson. We are a force to recon with and represent one of the focal points of winning college football in the South over the last 100+ years.

GO TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ken Hatfield didn't destroy it. He went 9-2 his last year. I'd argue that Tommy West destroyed it. He went 3-8 his last year. (I was a junior. It was ridiculously depressing.)

Talent is part of big-time football. Look at recruiting

under Hatfield and you see a huge drop off. Also look at the way the Tigers won under Ford. They showed up for the big games. They didn't get kicked in the mouth by the California Golden Bears.

Let's correct some history...

Oct 14, 2013, 9:35 AM [ in reply to Re: FSU fans look down on Clemson as if they have always ]

Ken was 8-3 his final year. One would argue it was the worst 8-3 team in the country. We lost at home to Wake Forest in front of 50k. Let me repeat that 50k fans in the Valley.

The year prior he went 5-6 with a roster made up mostly of Danny's players.

Ken Hafield definitely started the ship sinking. Tommy just wasn't ready for the gig. He couldn't recruit.

Thanks for the correction...you're account is spot on

I wasn't able to attend the Wake Forest game that year but my brother was there. He said there were so few people at the game hat you could sit anywhere you wanted. He and a friend sat on the home side, 50-yard line just beneath the press box. My guess is that there weren't even 50k "butts in seats." I do remember an "ESPN commentator" saying that year that the Tigers were the worst 8-3 team in the country. And, he was correct. The record didn't tell the true story. The program had imploded and the fans had jumped ship. I don't miss those "good ole days" one bit! Go Tigers! Whip the Noles! Can't wait to be back in Death Valley next Saturday!

Actually Clemson went 8-3 in Hatfield's last year

Oct 14, 2013, 9:58 AM [ in reply to Re: FSU fans look down on Clemson as if they have always ]

And they really weren't even a great 8-win team. One of those three losses was 57-0 against FSU.

GO TIGERS

Exactly. And really, they were not all that relevent after

Oct 14, 2013, 9:25 AM

2000. Most FSU fans were very unhappy with the decline during after 2000, 2001. Bowden was mediocre and it led to his "retirement".
