Why this season was not awful, actually just straightforward

We beat the teams we're better than and we lost to top 15 ranked teams who are better than us. We had a lead against both of those ranked teams at halftime, and lost it in the 4th quarter.
The progress in this situation is that we didn't lose to anyone we shouldn't have this year - whine all you want about how terrible our competition was this year, but truth is Tommy Bowden lost at least one of those games each year and Dabo had until this year.
You can whine that this season is a complete loss, but realistically we played like the 16-20th best team in the nation this year - we lost to a couple of top ten teams and beat everyone else. Our standards as fans have been raised whether you realize it or not - we are a legitimately ranked team, but not an elite team.
Until our defense improves we aren't going to take that next step, and you can quit the "next year national championship run" unless we can play better on the big stage.
I have faith that Venables can get this D in shape with a year or two under his belt and his recruits in place, and I can only hope Chad is still here by that point.

ummm we won against the garbage...we lost against the average.. season looks bad for us to me...back to the chic fil a bowl...god help us

The only thing we accomplished was not losing to a team that was awful. Our best two wins were Ball State and NC State. The only two good teams we played beat us soundly.

The "only two good teams" we played are top 10 teams this year. They aren't just good, they're among the best in the nation. It's not our fault we played such awful ACC teams this year without playing a mid-level ranked team - I feel confident we would beat anyone ranked 15-25 right now but unfortunately we didn't play any this year.

I agree with your points. We could only play who we had on our schedule and we are strapped with the ACC. Which is why we need to get out ASAP. We scheduled 2 SEC teams which is all we will ever schedule. Not sayin that this loss does not put a downer on the season, because it does with the performance tonight. We really need to win the bowl game. Otherwise we cannot cry about respect.

Screw winning the BCS ... let's just be consistent and play decent each season so we can at least be recognized.
