Frosh Klubnik vs Jr DJ, playing his best like 2020 ND

Jan 10, 2022, 1:43 PM

Who you got? True freshman Klubnik, playing like he has in HS but also as true freshman tend to play, vs DJ at his peak, in good health, and playing like he did in the ND game of 2020? Both QBs will be surrounded by a more veteran offense, so hopefully that element is out the window this year. So looking at talent and experience and leadership, what do you think?

Unless one really separates himself from the other in spring practice, I expect Dabo to alternate QBs like he did with Bryant and Lawrence, until one of the two pulls away or opts to transfer out. Knowing what I know of CDS, I'd be real surprised if he starts Klubnik over DJ, unless DJ just totally stinks it up in the spring. Dabo is nothing if not loyal and a giver of 2nd chances, but who knows.

My hope is that real competition brings DJ back to his Freshman form. I just feel like these guys may really feed off each other and make each other better. We need 2 good QBs we can rely on and I hope it plays out that way.

Reality is DJ does not fit the scheme here and Klubnik does. Gotta have a mobile QB back there that can make quick decisions. DJ even vs ND was not a threat running and was slow to process what he was looking at. His wrs fought harder for him vs ND than last year but alot of that had to do with keeping playoffs alive while Trevor was out.

DJ needs to transfer out to a school that runs like an air raid or a true spread offense for him to get drafted, jmo and hope I'm wrong bc DJ is a high character guy from what I've seen. I want the good guys to win but just don't see it happening in this system for DJ.

That is very true. DJ doesn't fit the system.

If DJ can play all year like he did vs ND I would take DJ for a year, then he could go pro after this season next season.

Both guys were oustanding in HS but i can attest that making the jump to college is huge. DJ has experience that cannot be replaced. The good news is the competition should allow one of them to rise to the top. I look forward to seeing the team get behind both of these guys and others there to ensure a better offensive year in 2022.

I don't think Dabo will start CK first game this fall.

He just doesn't have it in him to throw a freshman in the fire unless there is no alternative. Dabo's first goal after training a players is to get him accustom to the speed of the game at this level. Imo, Dabo already knows what's going to happen but he may not know how long it will be before it happens.

I'm thinking two or three games and DJ hits the portal if he hasn't before he watches CK start.

I hope I have DJ all wrong and he hangs in. With our schedule he will play many downs and have a good opportunity to begin to deal with his growth and development.

Never base player potential on a game vs ND or any B1G champ. The CFP taught me that.

Experience means more...DJ. I think we will see a slimmer, more polished DJ, maybe not in the spring but by fall I expect him to be different as long as he can stay healthy. IMO he looked more comfortable in the bowl game. Remember, a couple of drops here and there by our WRs made huge differences in games. This guy was the real deal and he hasn't forgotten how to play QB. If I'm wrong I'll be the first to admit it.

Klubnik is a winner and he will get his time to shine. The one that thing that stood out to me watching him is he needs to build his arm strength IMO. He throws the ball really high and sometimes the WRs have to slow down or come back and get it. That's not by design. Those aren't back shoulder throws. I can't wait to see him cut it loose but he def needs to bulk up for the hits he'll take at this level. I like him alot and like I said he's just a winner.

We get an OL that is consistent & healthy, a WR core that doesn't have the drops it's game on and Dabo's Revenge Tour is going to be epic!
