To hire a proven coordinator who already has an offensive philosophy in place.

I'm convinced that some people go through life as worriers. They always have something to worry about. And, if they don't have something to worry about they worry about not having anything to worry about until they find something to worry about.

Their philosophy is, "Every silver lining has a dark cloud."

Yes yes yes, make the let down so they don’t have to be disappointed personalities! Much rather walk in faith of great things to come, our excitement about what was coming is what made the last 10 years at Clemson so great.

We just knew we were going to be great & teams were underestimating us as a team & program. Faith in success was our destiny & we need to revisit it!

Dang shame the powerhouse known as Pittsburgh took the ACC title this year doncha think?

That said, Streeter is the OC and we are going to see what he brings to the coach's table this upcoming season.

True Brett. All in on Street creating his own brand. Will he develop DJ or steer towards Cade? That will begin his legacy.

But the antithesis is FSU hiring the worst possible candidates for football HC. There has to be some level of due diligence.

I see what you are saying but consider it this way...

Dec 21, 2021, 11:13 AM [ in reply to How does he have a philosophy if he says ]

Any good coach will adapt or tweak their philosophy to accentuate the talent they have every year. Take this year for example. I said in the first few weeks repeatedly that this is a defensive team and we needed to RUN the ball and win ugly. We were lacking playmakers at receiver, no slot guy, Oline couldn’t protect, and DJ was just struggling with reads, mechanics, everything. Tony did adapt to that philosophy, although it took more time than i thought it should have. But in his defense they had to coach up a stable of very young backs and get some cohesiveness on the Oline. So, in a sense every year is about developing philosophy and twists for good coaches. I think that is what Street meant. We ended up in a two back shotgun set because of personnel. I’m sure that wasn’t part of their philosophy, until dealt all the WR injuries. They adapted. That’s good coaching!

Now, would I like to hear Street be more assertive? Yes. Wes came out and said we are going to take it to the offense. Is there any doubt in our minds Wes is going to blitz from every angle possible? I think not. I do wish Street would make some defining statements like- we are going to recruit dynamic playmakers who are dangerous in space. We are WRU and we are going to start looking like it. We are going to take the top off your defense, execute back shoulders again, burn you with athletic man-beater TE’s. We are going to come at you with up tempo, get you on your heels, we are going to pound the ball with smash mouth Oline and dynamic backs, run QB counters and draws with a dynamic dual threat QB, and hit you with misdirection and draws and screens. We are going to recruit playmakers like Sammy and Mike Williams and CJ. We are going to be an offense that can take it the length of the field with less than a minute on the clock, or grind out a 12 play drive. That’s the Clemson Offense and it’s a fun offense. That’s what I am going to rebuild. I’m going to recruit players who want to play in our dynamic fun Clemson offense.

Re: I see what you are saying but consider it this way...

Dec 21, 2021, 12:40 PM

Agreed. Generalizations like that are anything but handing out your playbook. I think a lot of us hoping to see that though. For now let’s all take a deep breath and know Street and Dabo are smart enough to know that is what we need to do.

They do. The Clemson offense that Streeter has been a part of for 7 years. Think about the offense the last 7 years...why change that?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Might have been kinda cool

Dec 21, 2021, 11:28 AM

Agreed. But I think Street should come out and say what that Clemson offense, or more accurately was, prior to this season. We got away from that offense this year. We didn’t look like WRU. We didn’t have a Sammy style deep threat. We couldn’t execute back shoulder throws. We had no slot threat in the jet sweep or a 3rd down go to like Hunter. We didn’t have a dual threat QB. We struggled at QB to run or throw. We didn’t have Clemson level offensive talent or performance on the field. We seldom ran up tempo. We opted for the Rob Spence style of let’s stand at the line and try to out audible them every play. Street just needs to say what the Clemson offense is and that it’s dynamic and fun and we are going to recruit and develop talent to get back to those days.

Some people on this board are NEVER satisfied!! Relax, enjoy the season. Plenty of time to second guess in 2022.

Are you referring to the offense that dominated weak ACC teams

Dec 21, 2021, 11:44 AM [ in reply to Re: Might have been kinda cool ]

that have far less talent than we do, or the offense that struggled against LSU and Ohio State in the playoffs when we were more evenly matched talent-wise?

I won’t ask you about this year’s offense, because we all know how poorly it performed.

My point is that it’s easy to act like we haven’t had issues on offense because of the numbers we put up, but once you look a little closer it’s evident that we have had some schematic issues and coaching concerns that Streeter needs to address.

Dec 21, 2021, 12:45 PM

I totally agree. I’ve seen you repeatedly call for more up tempo. I agree. When we’ve gone uptempo it seems like DJ did often get in a better rhythm. But it’s a double edge sword when it doesn’t work...stress on the defense.

Re: Streeter IS a proven coordinator with an offensive

It really is funny when you realize that Streeter is older than Dabo when he became head coach, older than Tony Elliott or Jeff Scott now, and older than Chad Morris and Brent Venables when they became our OC/DC - and has more experience than any of them did when they started at Clemson except arguably Venables. He has been coaching for 19 years, and OC for 6 of those years!

Dec 21, 2021, 9:12 AM

I think he's definitely got what it takes. How much control will Dabo give up. Or will he keep his wings clipped?

I still believe imo we'd benefit from a QB coach. Again. Goes back to Dabo. Will we see the QB sling the ball before the receivers come out of their breaks? Or continue a more conservative approach and wait for the receivers to open up.

But comes down to getting the Jimmy and Joes like Jeff Scott and Marion Hobby could identity and develop.

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree. If what we’ve been told is true, Dabo has a problem letting

Dec 21, 2021, 11:49 AM

the offensive coordinators have full license to run things. He is obviously the head coach and has the power to change a play or question a call, but he isn’t the OC and he doesn’t have experience being an OC. So I would hope that he can trust his coaches and let them do things their way. That worked well on defense, and it will work well on offense too.

when he played it was a different brand of Football. If he produces an offense that was as tough as he was, we will be awesome.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

New offensive coordinator from the outside?

Dec 21, 2021, 10:41 AM

What? So you could keep up with the weekly trail of interviews with other programs?
Following Chad Morris chasing other jobs was real fun, wasn’t it?

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You’re implying that someone from the outside wouldn’t want to stay.

Dec 21, 2021, 11:52 AM

Also, Morris played a huge role in our ascension from an above average program to a very good one. He brought toughness to a team that was weak. He brought excitement and versatility to an offense that was mostly lacking it. While the yearly drama about his interviews and desire to be a head coach became a distraction, he did a lot for our program and laid the foundation for our success under Scott and Elliott.

Dec 21, 2021, 11:40 AM

with. Having been a QB himself, I believe he will pay more attention to the "Window Dressing" aspect of things. He knows that those little details can have a huge effect on the successful outcome of a play.

What I mean is the old "Get them looking where YOU want them to look, instead of where they SHOULD be looking." The biggest "chunk" plays are usually based on such "misdirection". Somehow, we seemed to get away from that the last couple of years.
