Friday Glover update.

I'll keep up with him as I am watching coverage all day.
Started at EVEN. Parred first four holes. Just ripped a drive down the middle of the fairway on 5.

30 feet putt on 5. Stuck a nice 2nd. Had good chance at birdie on 2 but missed his chip. Had a nice 11 ft look on 3 and just gave the hole away. Good up and down on 4. Caught a break for him, not hitting bunker... As that's been his nemesis this season.
Keep it up Lucas, pars your friend.

Like 18 yesterday, leaving some putts short. Greens should be getting dry but I'd imagine they're keeping them a tad slower given the forecasted winds.

He had an extremely difficult putt on 5. Had to go up a ridge for the middle pat of the putt. It crested about 7 feet short of the hole, then it was downhill to the hole and way past it. As an announcer said, "If he had it it with 2 feet more pace, it would have gone 10 feet past the hole."

I wasn't necessarily talking about today or 5 in specific, but more in general this season. I follow Lucas every tournament Have been for years. His putting confidence is probably 2. He's been working hard on it and one reason he'll blow a 3 footer by 5 or 6 feet. Trust his read. Yes, 5 is a tough hole and green. It was a good up and down.
I was very fortunate to have spent 40 glorious years going to Augusta 4 or 5 days every spring. Can't tell you how elated I am that Lucas slid into the cut. He's got to be on cloud 9. Although, he is well aware of what could have been today. Easily could have shot 70.

Wind picking up. Leader is -4 and hasn't teed off. Lucas should be playing tomorrow and should be playing in cold weather.

Played himself out of the Masters on 17 and 18. Poor approach into the sand trap on 17 followed by a poor sand shot. Did the exact same thing on 18.

was feeling really good about Lucas making the cut +2 but now gonna have to wait it out and see if the guys with the afternoon tee times get hit hard with the wind in the forecast...as of 1:15pm according the scoreboard on PGATOUR.com the cut is +3

Project cut line has slipped to +4. Glover should be safe; I think there's a better chance of it moving to +5 than +3 with the conditions this afternoon.

I think it will go to +5. The wind is killing them. I just watched guys on 11 hit their approach shots from the fairway on 11. In 4 groups I only saw one ball on the green. Saw 2 in the water and 4 20 or more yards right on green.
Then on 12 I saw 5 straight guys hit it over the green into the back bunkers.

same monster it was originally designed to be. I remember a quote from Ben Hogan years ago. He said:
"If you ever see me on the green in two on number 11, you can rest assured I pulled my second shot."
In other words, he was not going to try and draw some long club in there with that pond lurking on the left.
With the distance added and the wind today, most of the field did not even get to the pond, they were chipping from well short of the green. (Or wide right, as Mr. Hogan advocated!)

Made it fun once again. It'd become just another ho hum par 4. Fun watching 15 again too. Definitely nerve racking watching the cut bounce back and forth from 3/4 there for a while. Even toward the end you couldn't get comfortable. As you know 76, with Augusta, anything is possible...
