For everyone complaining about the cell signal in DV

Sep 10, 2012, 9:33 AM

during the game.

How many texts and calls do you think were made from DV during the 1981 home games?

COLLEGE: A three-year starter at strong safety for Clemson, finished his career with 234 tackles and 11 interceptions.

Whats your point?

Sep 10, 2012, 9:37 AM

This isn't the technological stone age anymore.

Re: Whats your point?

Sep 10, 2012, 9:38 AM

You can't go 3-4 hours without using your phone just because everyone else does?

This is what's wrong with America.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I had a sick daughter at home i was trying to get updates on

Sep 10, 2012, 9:44 AM

Is that a good enough reason for you sir? This isn't 1981...people have higher expectations now when it comes to technology. If there were cell phones then it would have been the same way.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I had a sick daughter at home i was trying to get updates on

Sep 10, 2012, 9:46 AM

Every big game with that many people has cell problems, not just a Clemson problem. It's luck of the draw, sometimes I'll get through sometimes I can't.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Devils advocate here...

Sep 10, 2012, 9:56 AM [ in reply to I had a sick daughter at home i was trying to get updates on ]

If your daughter was sick enough to need updates over a 5 hour span, shouldn't you have stayed home and watched it on TV?

It's not Clemson obligation to provide anyone with cell service. Want to complain? Go to a verizon (or whoever your provider is) forum.

Re: Devils advocate here...

Sep 10, 2012, 10:12 AM

Maybe she had a cold. Maybe he was being a good father and going overboard by checking on her. Completely out of bounds to question the parenting abilities of a person with such limited information.

I think we all are complaining about Verizon, not Clemson. My frustration comes from the fact that it was treated as this big announcement that would result in far superior cell phone service. Nothing could be further from the truth. Frankly, I like to have service, because I want to know what's going with other games. Yes, that's a luxury, but still a point of frustration, nonetheless.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Great post. I think thats exactly most peoples gripe***

Sep 10, 2012, 10:14 AM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not out of bounds...

Sep 10, 2012, 10:22 AM [ in reply to Re: Devils advocate here... ]

when he brought it up as to the reason why he needed his phone. I simply relayed the importance of the situation.

He/she made the decision to stay at the game, so don't ##### about Clemson's service at that point. Sorry, that dog just doesn't hunt.

I'm sure he/she is a great parent and was worried about their daughter, but a decision was made to stay at the game, not Clemson's or Verizon's problem at that point.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"Excuse me? I don't go down to your work and tell you how to flip the burger!"

Well he/she you had no idea what the situation was so you

Sep 10, 2012, 10:27 AM

Have no business telling me what I should or should not do

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

LOL... you found out... you made a decision...

Sep 10, 2012, 10:33 AM

and I am not criticizing you for making that decision (I actually applaud you for not going over board). Too many parents are afraid to let kids be kids these days.

But don't effing blame Clemson because of service, out of their control, that you pay another company for, failed, and you couldn't get updates.

That's the chance you took by staying and you know that. You also took the chance that your battery would run out too. Just because it didn't, you still knew it could be a possibility.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"Excuse me? I don't go down to your work and tell you how to flip the burger!"

Maybe you should try rereading my posts so you can better

Sep 10, 2012, 10:44 AM

Understand my complaint.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You're complaint was about having a higher expectation for

Sep 10, 2012, 10:53 AM

technology, that this isn't the technological stone age.

What better proof to say that technology isn't bullet proof, than saturday.

You do online banking right? You expect your data to be kept safe right? But everyday, thousands of people have the bank accounts drained by hackers. We know that their are risks in depending on anything and that is especially true technology. The more you depend on something, the great chance you run that it is going to fail you and the more it is going to impact you.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"Excuse me? I don't go down to your work and tell you how to flip the burger!"

I also said if you advertise this huge improvement you have

Sep 10, 2012, 10:59 AM

Made and don't deliver then you do deserve whatever complaints come your way. If Clemson didn't want complaints about it then don't make a big deal about all you have done to improve it and then not deliver.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Even though I disagree with you...

Sep 10, 2012, 11:08 AM

for the sake of our differences. Even if Clemson is at fault, Tigernet, is not affiliated with Clemson in any official capacity.

Again, I was not trying to question your parenting and for that, I apologize if it came across like that. I was merely trying to point out that we cannot blame technology when it doesn't do what we want it to. Nothing is perfect and technology has proven to be a very critical tool in our growth, but we still need to realize how delicate it is.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"Excuse me? I don't go down to your work and tell you how to flip the burger!"

Thanks Dr for your input but i didnt find out until i was

Sep 10, 2012, 10:12 AM [ in reply to Devils advocate here... ]

Already at the game. Sure, its not Clemson's obligation. But don't advertise it with so much hype that they had done so much to make it better.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

plus i think the towers are only for verizon customers

Sep 10, 2012, 9:37 AM

i may be wrong in that though.

I have Verizon and had no service all game in the student section. But if you went inside to get a drink or something to eat there was service.

Re: It is. The people with me who had verison had no problems***

Sep 10, 2012, 10:33 AM

Same here on the hill. Little to no service and it seemed to drain my battery for some reason.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: It is. The people with me who had verison had no problems***

Sep 10, 2012, 10:55 AM

It's because it spends 4 hours searching for service. I have an iPhone and it was fully charged when I got into the stadium at 11:30ish and by the time we cleared off the field after the game my phone was down to 23% and I hadn't done anything with it. If you can't get service you are better off putting it in airplane mode or something so it doesn't kill your battery.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oh, well since you put it that way it changes nothing at all***

Sep 10, 2012, 9:38 AM

I have Verizon and service still sucked in DV***

I always make my grandkids a walkie talkie out of used SW. Kids these days just don't know how to play without an electrical outlet. Somebody's got to teachem.

Sep 10, 2012, 9:57 AM

you are right though, they couldn't make us(as kids)come inside, now you have to fight kids to get'em to go out!

What?

Sep 10, 2012, 9:53 AM

We rely on cell phones and the internet so much, you can't compare today to 1981. That's like saying "For everyone complaining about losing A/C in their home this summer, how many people were without A/C in 1776?"

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: For everyone complaining about the cell signal in DV

Sep 10, 2012, 9:59 AM

I think it's because kids today appreciate the little things more; A/C, TV, soft plush couches...etc. If you want to go back to 1981 be my guest, but I'm pretty happy with how things look today.

Free wifi??

Sep 10, 2012, 10:35 AM

I wonder why the university doesn't put up a bunch of free wifi hot spots or something. I think

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Free wifi??

Sep 10, 2012, 10:38 AM

Even if a third of the people were using wifi that would take some of the strain off the cell towers. Just a thought. I wouldn't mind not having my phone so much if they would just put all the other scores up on the ribbon screens or something. I just like to see what the other scores are.
