For wildlife lovers and potential donors

Jun 21, 2021, 5:06 PM

I caught a very small fawn in my yard Friday while grandkids were visiting - it had serious wounds near its tail and was obviously in distress. My granddaughter , knowing what a big deer hunter I am, kept telling me not to shoot it (as I carried it around my yard until we could find somewhere to get it cared for). We found a sanctuary near Laurens only 30 minutes from where I live that cares for any injured wild animal and it relies on donations. I got there with the fawn almost at dark but they said they would have taken it in even later. They have pictures on Facebook and several ways to donate. Posting this hoping there are a few soft-hearted folks to give them a hand after seeing the pictures they have posted. They even have a heron in a bath tub with a bucket of fish- check them out!

Check them out at facebook.com/PAWSSC or www.PAWS-SC.com

If you look on Facebook the 2 photos dated 6/19 show the fawn I took to them the night before.

I have found a few fawns in my yard through the years. Thank goodness they have all been healthy. Sounds like good people!

Coyotes or dogs were probably after it. We need to put bounties on coyotes. They have taken the wildlife in my area. Fox pens introduced them and nothing was done about it.

read that in some cases, obviously not this one, mothers will leave a fawn while searching for food and will return. If you find a fawn uninjured you should keep an eye on it and see if mother returns. At least this what I read in a wildlife article.

yard in broad daylight and had injuries. I caught him to keep him from going into a neighbor’s yard with a German Shepherd which would have been gruesome for my 2 grandkids to see. He wouldn’t have lived much longer if left to wander around the neighborhood
