I’m not concerned in the least. I will say it would be great to get that 6’ 180 pound burner for the slot….but I’m not concerned at all.

Agreed, with the WR’s and a QB coming in with the ability to throw them the ball.

We already have our slot receiver on campus. He is recovering from a torn ACL earlier this year. He is going to be great!

If you are not worried about our receivers, you didn't watch any Bowl games. Ohio State signed 4 wide receivers and none are over 6'1", Alabama signed 5 and I think 1 is over 6'1". For teams to be successful today you have to have receivers that can fly and it is great to have tall ones but they have to be able run.

Our main concern about WRs is the lack of diversity at the position. That was at least present at the start of the 2021 season. Ross, Ngata, Ladson, EJ, and Ajou all being the same type of WR. They are all vertical threats. None of them are a threat in the screen game. None of them are dangerous in the slot. None of them can get in and out of breaks quickly against man coverage in underneath routes.

We need more WRs like Antonio Williams. We need to get back to that balance of vertical threat (Nuk, Mike, Tee) with a threat in the screen game and underneath routes (Sammy, Artavis, Amari), coupled with a weapon in the slot (Humphries, Renfrow, Amari). It's not that we believed our WRs weren't good. We just believed that they weren't effective being on the field at the same time.

Speed kills baby. You can't coach it, it is either there or not. Got to have a burner if you expect to stress a defense. Of course, you have got to have hands to go with that or you are just a track star running routes for academic purposes.

DJs yips are what’s wrong. How many times did he throw a receiver open? Zero…
How many times did he prematurely decide a WR was covered, move to the check and eat it? A bunch…
Have you ever noticed how difficult it is for even an outstanding DB to stay locked on a receiver?
His definition of ‘covered’ is way different than TL and DW.
DJ needs a shrink - OR to be pushed by a young gun - or both…
We may see a different DJ next season or he may be a portal puppy - time will tell.
BUT get an aggressive QB back there, whoever that is…

My worries aren’t about the talent we have. It’s being able to teach that talent to run great routes and separate. We saw an extreme inability to create separation all year from every receiver we had. That needs to be addressed and fixed.

Apparently, Antonio Williams is an excellent route runner. There is hope.

That's great, and cause for encouragement...

We need more than one good route-runner on the team to be successful. Very, very few Clemson wide receivers were getting open at all in 2021. Even against bad teams and average to mediocre teams, our WRs were covered like a blanket. Something bad wrong there and it needs to get fixed. No more west coast softies. We need more Tee Higgins, Mike Williams and Nuk Hopkins types who have the nads to fight for the ball without instantly getting a boo boo EVERY TIME.
