For those that have unfairly bashed the SEC's NCAAT

Mar 21, 2022, 9:36 AM

performance.....Bruce Pearl was able to shed some light on this.

https://247sports.com/LongFormArticle/NCAA-Tournament-2022-Auburn-coach-Bruce-Pearl-sticks-up-for-SEC-basketball-after-Round-of-32-loss-to-Miami-184910982/#184910982_1

I think he took his comments directly out of the SEC coach speak propaganda handbook...

"...I think we just beat each other up all year. It was such a grind. Such a grind. That's the only thing I can tell you because the league was really, really good..."

Translation: Auburn did not buy him enough players

Turns out they could only afford sec players, not NCAA players.

Impressive how in line the conference has their coaches. Other media outlets have spoken to how the SEC has impressed on the media how important "proper messaging" is. For all the things that the SEC does well the number 1 thing they have done the last 10 years is a common and aggressive messaging campaign and it is likely the #1 reason they have done so well.

If the league was “that” good, then they should

Mar 21, 2022, 9:51 AM

have outperformed everyone in the NCAA tournament. Looks like a great SEC basketball conference can’t measure up to the talent in Big Boy tournament. Oh yeah, and Kentucky was down this year; guess that is what made the rest of their conference so great this year.

If the SEC does well, it’s because they are all so good and are the only ones “battle tested” and prepared for that level of competition.

If the SEC does poorly, it’s because they are all so good they beat each other up and they lose to lesser teams because they are worn out by the gauntlet.

It’s amazing.

It's like "climate change". There's always a way to explain why it's bad. Hotter? Climate change. Colder? Climate change. Floods? Climate change. Drought? Climate change.

Almost seems like a theme they use everyday! It’s good marketing when you have big fan bases with big money!

No doubt they are the best at getting the money! That’s about it though!

Hey Bruce, how about NOT losing to ANOTHER ACC Team at Aubie ok?

2018 Lost to Clemson
2019 Lost to UVA
2021 Lost to NCAA Fighin' Bureaucrats
2022 Lost to Miami

Funny, I have never heard the Big East nor the ACC ever use that excuse. I think the best way to explain it is "overrated". #2 loses to 15, #2 losses to 10, #3 loses to 11, 6 loses to 11 (Twice)

It isn't how *good* you are at the beginning nor the mid-point of the season, it is how the team develops. Why I put a bigger weight on conference play rather than early season results.

I think a lot of folks complained at how "bad" the ACC was and it isn't looking that way now. Stinks for Wake Forest getting a snub, but anyone not seeing that UNC was dangerous late wasn't paying attention and we have all know that Miami was a lurker.

The thing everyone should take from this is that rankings in

Mar 21, 2022, 10:09 AM

basketball (and baseball also) don't mean squat.

The SEC had a bunch of teams highly ranked all year, so everyone translates that to they are tough.

Re: The thing everyone should take from this is that rankings in

Mar 21, 2022, 2:49 PM

Pretty much the highly ranked SEC teams won their home games against the better SEC teams and lost the road games. They pretty much all beat the weaker sisters of the poor in the SEC because (like football) there is a serious gap between the top 4-5 basketball teams (2 or 3 in football) and the rest of the league. So they get ranked highly in the preseason due to media bias and then maintain the high ranking by only losing to other highly ranked SEC teams.

All I hear in that article is a lot of excuses. Pearl is an over-the-top recruiter who has always operated on the dark end of main street (which his record clearly shows). As an on-the-court and tournament coach, he leaves a lot to be desired. Lots of sizzle, not a lot of steak. His program is currently on probation and he was suspended 2 games this past season. Those are the facts and they are incontrovertible.

LOL. Very SEC excuse

I don't think the bashing is unfair at all, but that's just

Mar 21, 2022, 11:37 AM

me, I guess. In my mind, the SEC always deserves any kind of bashing they get. They do any and everything they can to be the 800 pound gorilla in the room at all times, so it makes me feel good whenever anyone takes them to task over ANYTHING.

The SEC should have stricter standards and not sign players that should still be in high school and have more difficult majors to require them to go to class and take 4 - 4+ years to get a degree, not be able to major in On-Campus Chikfila.
