Better to look at it by the % of each ranking that were drafted. 23 - 5* rated players drafted is a very high % because there are so few.

Yes exactly. Not sure if OP is trying to say stars don't matter or something like that but you have to look at it on a % basis. 20+ 5-stars is staggering! It means that stars very much do predict talent, within reason, relatively accurately!

A high percentage of the 5 stars and a good percentage of the 4 stars got drafted
23/34 5 stars or 68% 76/297 4 stars or 26% 90/1543 3 stars or 6% 3 stars
2 stars and under way less than 6%

and over 1,500 3 stars, do the math and check the percentages, then adjust your agenda. I'll stick to the stars.

You are aware that there are a whole lot more 3 star and below players than 4 star and 5 star right?
From a pure % stand point 5 stars and 4 stars are much more likely to make it to the league.

"Bananas are the most popular fruit in the world. The banana is, in fact, not a tree but a high herb that grows up to 15 metres. It is believed that there are almost 1000 varieties of bananas in the world, subdivided in 50 groups. The most commonly known banana is the Cavendish variety, which is the one produced for export markets."

Unfortunately you are incorrect and score a 20%. You obviously haven't studied this subject. My favorite is the round banana with the orange crust. Roll Tide!!

I think 10 or 11 were 5 star guys... it was nearly 1/3.

Less than 1% of recruits earn a 5* rating so making up ~30% of the 1st round is pretty incredible.

I will take a 4 or 5 star player over a 2 or 3 star player any day. Recruiting rankings closely match the top 25 rankings. True talent shows on the court or field.

Watson was a 5 star player. Tee Higgins is a 5 star player. Spiller was a 5 star player. If you want to see what a team with 2 and 3 star players look like, go to Duke or Wake Forest. Pretty pathetic! We have a great recruiting staff and I'm very glad they go get the best players.

You aren't either. I dont know why this subject is so divisive. Super talent plus good coaching wins a lot of games. Ask Saban or Dabo. Are some of you trying to say that 2 and 3 star players are better than 4 and 5 star recruits? That's just plain wrong. Don't go by the NFL scouts. They drafted division 2 players. Chicago drafted a joke at qb.

On what? We recruit well every year so this is pointless. Are some of you fans wanting us to take 2 and 3 star players? Bowden did that with linemen. Let's hope we land Salyer,Hill, and Jackson on the line. Add Ross and Eagles at wr. Add Jeffries and Henry on defense. The third national title would be Clemsons soon.

Not sure what point you are trying to make

As has been mentioned the interesting numbers would be percentages of each group who were drafted.
But additionally, something that is often missed in these discussions is that players are "evaluated" and given stars based on their potential COLLEGE impact which is not at all the same metric as any potential NFL impact. A superstar high school QB who can run like the wind and make folks miss and can thrown decently, may get a 4 or 5 star grade based on the college game being fluid enough to tailor gameplans to that skillset, but the NFL will draft them as an Athlete at best and perhaps not even then.

On that we all agreed. College coaches recruit the best players to fit their system. Watson was a 4 star spread qb who was a Heisman finalist twice. Mitch Trubisky isn't in Watsons league. Chicago wanted a drop Back qb not a spread qb. They were system specific. Watson was much higher rated in high school but the pros did not value him as much. Go Texans!

A young man just isn't fully developed coming out of HS, and his best most athletic years are way ahhead of him still. This has shown up over and over, starting with Michael Jordan, recently, to present. We simply can't tell what an 18 y.o. will be in three to seven years.
