For some reason

Dec 9, 2022, 8:09 PM

I am very excited to see Klubnik take over the team in the Orange Bowl. All of us have been down for a number of games because of the quarterback play. I think that this bowl game will show the college fans everywhere that the Tigers are here to stay. Am I just dreaming or is this the game where Clemson becomes a front page team again?

I do think he'll be a good one, BUT, his first two games that he'll be getting most of the meaningful snaps were/will be against two of the worst defenses in the nation. So I don't think you're dreaming, but I'm also not sure we're really learning much right now, either.

Lmfao this narrative of defenses is getting so old. How many bad defenses or just ok defenses did DJ face and do nothing?? We looked like we should look against UNC and if we come out against Tennessee looking the way we should you’re going to learn a lot. If Cade can command the offense against “sucky” defenses I’ll feel better about going into next year. Sure you can by into all of the narratives pushed by talking heads to keep you negative, or you can trust your eyes when you see the energy Cade brings to the team.

Tennessee is a strong team. They have a good defense and they're not chopped liver. They shutout vandy. Vandy has been scoring points.

They shut Kentucky down. Can't judge them on the scar game. Whether dope or whatever it was, it was an anomaly. Uga scored 27. That's it. Bama is a great offense. Had 2 costly fumbles that gave Pitt life. Held lsu to 13... so you've got to look at the whole.

Saying, if cade shows out in orange bowl, it'll be a great win and we'll see what his potential can be.

Georgia was winning by three TDs at the start of the 2nd half and UGA threw the ball about 4 times in the 2nd half. Kirby knew he didn't need anymore points. Don't be misled by that 27.

Tenn had 2 WTH games. Ga and SC. Did not even look like the same team. Both were away games so that may have played a small part. Most teams have those weeks where things do not click but their off days were horrible. Good teams have to find a way to win when everything seems to be headed uphill.

I agree regarding the SC game. No one saw that coming.

As for the Vols game with UGA, I never bought into all that nonsense about how many points TN would score. I was confident TN couldn't run on UGA (no one does) and that the Dawgs could limit big plays (Bama coudn't). I thought the Dawgs would win by 10 or so.

TN is going to have the same problems with Clemson they had with UGA. They won't have much success running and will have to rely on big plays. If the Clemson secondary can hold up and limit big plays (like UGA), I think the "new" Tigers offense is going to show out at Tennessee's expense.

Transferred in to Tennessee. Was the starter last year until he lost the job to Hooker. I think he's pretty well regarded as a capable QB.

Yes. Big kid, 5-star arm talent but not very accurate. Almost a clone of DJ. Was a starter at Michigan at one point and started at TN beginning last year. Tons of talent and potential but thus far is just a great athlete and not a great QB.

Following the UGA game all TN has lost was the SEC East. At kickoff in Columbia, they were still playing for a playoff spot.

They have no QB and a horrible defense.

Let's light up the Tenn defense on a national stage. Then we've got the whole off-season to learn how to do it to anyone.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You are right, People on here don’t understand…..yes he is much better than DJ,

Dec 10, 2022, 9:31 AM [ in reply to Re: For some reason ]

Yes he played one of the worst passing defenses in UNC (look it up) ..yes Tenn is also terrible in Pass defense…..still better than what DJ could have done…and if Dabo would have played Cade against USuC we would be in playoffs…..I think he is going to be good…..how good…we will just have to wait and see

Its really not about the level of defense. We watched DJ throw 3 straight balls at the ground on 5 yard out routes vs UNC (who has a bad defense)

This is more about actually being able to throw a forward pass that everyone is excited about. That will be fun.

There is so much more to being a good football team than a QB but this a great opportunity for Cade. Cade has potential and he will very, very probably not complete 80% of his passes in the Orange Bowl but the game is big because of where is will be played and who our opponent is. Dabo, and every other coach, always says that the best thing about a Bowl are the extra practices. We may or may not win the game but Cade will get valuable time running the offense and getting a head start on next season.

TN has one of the best run defenses and one of the worst pass defenses in all college football. So we likely will not run on them. Cade went up against a bad UNC defense that was also not prepared for him to play. I expect TN to stuff the run to force Cade to beat them with his arm. Then they will throw a lot of coverage looks and offside blitzes to try and confuse him. At least what I would if DC. It will very interesting to see if he is able to correctly read defensive shifts. I expect he will hit some and miss some, just hope the hits are better than the misses.

The difference - Cade can beat them with his arm and legs. We’ve been one dimensional for 2 years, no more.

Dec 10, 2022, 7:22 AM

I am very excited to see Cade perform in the orange bowl. For two years, we have watched Clemson football, knowing that we made a mistake in recruiting at quarterback. We all hope game after game that the talent would burst through and we would have an offensive explosion. Didn’t happen even when we won and it did not happen this year until the third series of the ACC championship. Hoping for more of the same from Cade Klubnik.

Thanks for the posstive responses. A team that has been highly ranked ALL YEAR apparently has a little going for themselves. Their defense had been good enough to allow them to be a top five team.

"For some reason"? The reason is Cade and how he lifts the whole team and the fan base. After two years of mediocre (and that is putting it lightly) QB1 play, we have something to get excited about. Some hope. A good win will really help the off season narrative for 2023.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I normally don't care for Stephen Colbert, but he said it

Dec 10, 2022, 9:06 AM

best a couple of years ago. He was talking about Trump being gone, but I get the same feeling now.

"At last, our long national nightmare is over."

Even when DJ played well (for him) the last two years, the offense just was severely limited. There was no real "spark". As hard as that is to define, it is easy to tell when it's missing. It came back in the ACC Championship game when Cade entered the game early. Because, we finally knew, one way or another, he was going to get his shot in this game. And wow, did he ever come through.

So now, HOPE has returned to the Clemson football team. THAT is why I, like you, are so looking forward to the Orange Bowl.

I am very excited for this game too. And I will admit I was not really excited going into the ACCCG. Prior to going. I told some friends I was more excited about the trip to Charlotte and having a great time with our friends than I was about the game itself. This was the first time I had ever felt that way heading into a trip to see the Tigers play. Don’t get me wrong, y’all know I went into it positive and supportive, but we just had not been playing exciting football much this season. I do feel like a lot of the excitement that we are used to is back and I am really excited about the trip to Miami and the game itself. Go Tigers! Beat the Vols!

I would be careful putting too much stock and emphasis on Cade's one game where he played most of the game. I remember another QB who had a great game and thereafter many fans, me included, wondered why he did not look that way every week! I think Cade will be great and that the ACCCG was a window into what he will become, but right now I would not expect him to be as consistent as everyone seems to think he is going to be. I hope I am wrong ..... big time!
