For future freshmen recruits

Sep 8, 2014, 9:01 AM

What is all of this saying to them? Come in, be better at your position but just bc someone is older than you, they will play. If Deshaun were at a school that cared ab doing whatever it takes to win, he wouldn't have to worry about this. Players talk, and I think most want Watson in by the way they all get off the bench to watch what he's doing. Stoudt throws it 2-5 yards at a time, we can't beat fast and aggressive defenses doing this. Stoudt is a smart QB and could help Watson tremendously with the playbook since that's all he's been doing for 4 years. Cole would be a good QB at Vandy, Kentucky, Virginia, etc. but not as an elite level starting QB, he's shown that. Watson has shown that no situation is too big

Pulse rate!! Just wondering g what your D1 coaching background is that gives you the knowledge to know who should be the starting QB at Clemson?

Lol you don't have to like it, it's so obvious that everyone denying it looks so stupid

I don't really think it is saying much...

Sep 8, 2014, 9:19 AM

you are looking to far in to it. We are two games in to the season and DW has gotten some good opportunities to show his talent...which he has a lot of.

Recruits will not think a thing of this and I don't either. The coaches will not just play Cole because he has been there longer. They will play him because he is capable and a good leader on the team. DW's play on the field is exciting and he is ridiculously good, but let this one play out a little more before you get all upset.

What ALL of it says ...

Sep 8, 2014, 9:57 AM

And that's what you asked:

Artavis Scott, 2 TDs 160-plus yards.
Adam Choice more carries than any true freshman since CJ Spiller, a TD and 70-plus yards
Wayne Gallman, 70-plus yardds rushing
Deshaun Watson, 3 TDs and 150-plus yards passing.

Seven first-year players ... eight if you include Kurt Fleming ... had significant playing time on offense. That includes a true freshman quarterback who came into the program knowing he was going to be brought along slowly and seems happy with it.

If I'm a freshman, I'm looking at the numbers put up by Clemson's younger guys and saying "Dang! Clemson believes in playing their younger guys! Where do I sign up?"

In meaningful games, the ones that everyone actually cares about and hears about. The games that determine where the big recruits go. Nobody gives a #### ab SC state. Maybe Dabo has a different recruiting pitch, but it seems all the big time recruits go where they can play early bc they want to get their stock as high as possible and go to the NFL

I'm guessing you truly believe

Sep 8, 2014, 10:37 AM

...we should have turned all the freshmen out in their first game on the road in Athens. Perhaps we should put a couple of freshmen OL out there as well. Don't want people thinking we'd actually redshirt along the line.

We may have to agree to disagree on that one, but I cannot see many college coaches risking that in an environment like Athens.

I believe that whether our Game 2 opponent had been SC State or UNC, the freshmen would have gotten the play time they did. I believe they will see more time as the season progresses.

And I believe that the concern of what recruits will think of Clemson will be what it has always been: The best possible location to showcase skills and become the best you can be as a player and a man.

If they are better than the starter, why not? Artavis Scott is better than Adam Humphries. Deshaun Watson is better than Cole Stoudt. I don't believe any of the freshmen linemen are better than the starters. If they're better than the guy in front of them, why wouldn't you play them? Why wouldn't you put them on the field when they gain more yards? Score more points? Make more plays? Why not give the freshmen a chance after getting shut down in the 2nd half by Georgia? That's when the players take over, when they step up and make plays. And we had a bunch of guys on the field who showed that they can't. A year of Vic and Grady and Stephone and Tony on defense and it goes to waste, it's a shame. I guess it will take FSU to wake the coaches up. And recruits don't get on tigernet message boards they go to national sites

And this ends the conversation ...

Rev worded it much better than I would have in his response.

I hope that with 2 weeks of practice and 2 games of tape. Dabo is smart enough to put the best players out there vs the Noles. This is the biggest game of the year and Dabo knows that.

This is what it is saying to freshman recruits

Don't hang around meaningless football boards with arm chair coaches to get useful info.
