Football Field

Jun 16, 2016, 2:58 PM

I took my grandsons to see Howard's Rock last week. The football field is solid brown. Does anyone know the plan and the schedule for eventual green grass? It seems like it is getting a little late to re-sod. I assume there is a plan.

The plan is to wait for the cool season grass to green up when it greens up, just like every year.

Explain?***

The guy who is in charge of our fields knows what he's doing and when it needs doing. Our fields are beautiful not artificial turf like so many. Don't worry it will be beautiful for our first home game.

The grounds crew doesn't do the re-sodding. It is contracted out but my buddy on the grounds crew told me that it is going to start this week now that camp is over. Gets new sod like every 2 years or so

I think it's more like 4-5 years but this is the year to re-sod

Sprigging or sodding....it's not too late...perfect weather

Jun 16, 2016, 7:15 PM

for Bermuda to be placed. My guess is that they will remove the existing dead grass and thatch with a machine that is driven by a tractor and shoots the dead grass and thatch into a Pronovost trailer as it tears up the field. You get a little smoother surface than using a sod cutter. If a sod cutter is used, they may put a laser grade the surface to make sure everything is smoothed properly before laying the sod or sprigging. They will probably lay the big rolls of sod, versus the smaller slabs. Regardless, Mike Echols knows what he is doing and it will be done right!!!!

I agree somebody knows what they are doing. Just think what that field endured and held up to this past year. How much rain was on that field all season and it drained well and held up
