Loudest Game

Mar 22, 2022, 11:52 AM

I’ve ever experienced was when we played Miami in 2005. I couldn’t hear anything and my ears were just rattling… I think as a youngster I was more terrified that I couldn’t even tell my grandpa anything because it was so loud…

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Couldn’t hear the people yelling beside me.

Mar 22, 2022, 11:57 AM

Just a cloud of noise.

ND and Louisville 2015 were loud too

I agree. I was at that one and it was hard to hear the person beside. You could feel the west end zone stands rocking.

Not the loudest game overall but

Mar 22, 2022, 12:07 PM

The loudest play that sticks with me was XT’s sack to basically end the game against Syracuse in the Chase Brice game. It seems like often there is an apprehension in the crowd, which is waiting to see if there is a flag, that can mute the noise on a bit on big plays. That XT play seemed to unfold in slow motion you could see from the snap that the QB was a dead man. After everything that transpired that week and in the game when that hit landed it was a euphoric truly primal roar from the crowd.

There were some Miami fans sitting in front of us. During a TV timeout one turned and asked "is it always like this?" Even during the timeout we were close to shouting just to communicate.

I almost passed out from yelling. What a game!!!

Loudest game ever?

Domers v Miami in Hard Rock Stadium (with the partial roof) in 2017. The parking lot was crazy before the game and the atmosphere in the stadium was electric. And then the beatdown stared and I thought my ears were going to bleed. It was literally painful. Fpr a good portion of the game I couldn't hear my wife who was trying to yell into my ear.

Miami Destroyed them. Something like 41-8 (?). The domers had like 4 or 5 turnovers and Miami's offense was scorching them.

It was amazing.

Loudest Game I ever attended was the Charlotte Hornets vs

Mar 22, 2022, 1:31 PM

Chicago Bulls in 1988 on Christmas eve Eve.

That game had thousands of bandwagon Bulls fans outside looking for tickets. Had a guy offer me $200.00 for my $7.00 seats, which was tempting to a 19 year old. But I decided to go watch anyway.

Kurt Rambis hit a layup at the buzzer and I thought the building was going to collapse!! It was so loud that it went silent in my head.

The 2005 Miami game was the loudest moment I heard in Death Valley, but inside a coliseum, that was scary nuts loud!!

The 2005 Miami-Clemson was the loudest I remember in the OTs.

2015 ND-Clemson and 2016 Lewisville-Clemson were loud.

Glad you mentioned the Puntrooskie game. The play before the fake punt we nearly intercepted a pass - maybe Dorian Marable if I recall correctly??? Anyway he missed the interception but it forced a 4th down and a punt and my ears literally rang in the student section. It was the loudest I have ever heard the valley - And then a minute late near silence as Leroy Butler runs down the sideline.

1983 Clemson-UGA in Death Valley

Mar 22, 2022, 1:01 PM

I am putting my $0.02 vote in for 1983 Clemson-UGA in Death Valley. Game ended in 16-16 tie after Donald Igwebuike's 68-yard field goal had the distance but landed just left of the crossbar with one second to play, and Georgia kicker Kevin Butler's 66-yard attempt on the next play fell way short.

Lots on the line and two highly rated teams. Also, no mobile phones, video games or internet in those days. Clemson Football was the unquestioned #1 priority in town, and folks got loud and stayed loud when DEFENSE was on the field as if their lives depended on it.

Mar 22, 2022, 1:17 PM

Don’t forget Louisville’s first ever visit to DV in 2014. Loserville coach had said he didn’t think it could be any louder than the Carrier Dome so we took that as a challenge. Started loud and stayed that way. Won the game 23-17 by stopping a 4th and goal from our 2 yard line with 21 seconds left so we had to be that loud through the entire game. I still think that is the loudest game start to finish that I have attended in DV and I was a student from 1980-1984 when we were known to be one of the loudest fan bases in the country.

The last Louisville game that Jackson played in was personally the loudest I had ever witnessed. Louisville fans were looking at each other like WTH.

Pre-Covid didnt miss a home game since like mid 80's but Miami 2005? was probably it for me. Just Crazy. Louisville, ND and a couple of florida state games would tie for 2nd. Tommy's first year was pretty good from what I remember :)

I was on the hill that game and yes I agree it's one of the loudest I've ever been too I thought it was 2013 though. But not quite as loud as the Louisville game with Lamar Jackson and neither of those were as loud to me as it was the night they tore the goal posts down I think it was against Florida St. I was a kid then so the other two could have been louder.

Duke at Clemson in The Valley. 1995

Mar 22, 2022, 5:53 PM

It was raining. We were bad. They were bad.
I don’t even remember the game, but I guess we won.

Maybe about 50,000 people there…but that’s a stretch.
It was a nice, supportive crowd though.

You’re right, it was November and cold.
We were ranked 24th. I didn’t remember that.
We won 34-17.

Announced crowd of 62,936. Aside from the garbage in 2020, that’s gotta be the smallest announced crowd since the second upper deck was added.
And it probably was really closer to 50,000.

All the games that everybody has mentioned I have been too and they were all definitely loud but nobody mentioned the '81 Georgia game, guess not many were living at that time or were way to young to go to the game.It was hot a day and it was loud, especially when Hershel Walker would get tackled for no gain and when Georgia would fumble which I think if I am not mistaken happen 9 times and when Perry Tuttle caught a TD pass to put the Tigers up 13-3 which was the final.Ole Hershel never scored a TD against Clemson, bet a lot of teams he played against could say that...

Peach bowl against Miss state, those cowbells had my ears ringing for days. And that was back when they were allowed to just rattle them throughout the entire game, it never stopped, I heard them in my nightmares that night.

Jan 11, 1966 vs #1 Dook at Fike. They had 3 future NBA players with Marin, Verga and Lewis. Tigers kept it close and lost by 2. The friend who sat next to me couldn't hear even when I yelled 6 inches from his ear at times during the whole game.

My favorite game and one of the loudest (from where I was sitting) was Notre Dame. When they went for two and got stopped! I’ll never forget that game and that rain!!
