Fellow "Dog People" will understand,

Mar 11, 2015, 4:05 PM

We lost our 11 year old Cairn Terrier Sunday night.
I got him as a pup when we lived in Mt. Pleasant. It is always painful to lose
our 4 legged family members. Tough days, weeks, months ahead.
Murphy watched many many Clemson games with me in his recliner!
I was always a Labrador Retriever man, but everyone should have a Terrier once in life.
Sad and heartbroken in Florida.

I'm so sorry buddy! They are really one of the family and they give nothing but love! Thoughts are with you!

Thoughts and prayers are with you. We have been through three losses over the years , and it's always difficult. Hang in there.

after the loss of a beloved 4-legged family member, my vet sent us a card with this in it:

We who choose to surround ourselves with lives
even more temporary than our own
live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached.
Unable to accept its awful gaps
we would still live no other way.
We cherish memory as the only certain immortality
never fully understanding the necessary plan.

We had to put down our 7 year old Choc. Lab due to cancer. He was my best friend. Someone sent this to me. I hope it helps you. You are in my thoughts.

Lend Me a Pup

I will lend for you awhile, a Terrier pup, god said,
for you to love him while he lives and to mourn him when he's dead.
Maybe for twelve or fourteen years, or maybe two or three,
But will you, 'till I call him back, care for him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you and should his stay be brief,
You'll always have his memories as solace for your grief.

I can not promise he will stay, since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught below I want this pup to learn.

I've looked the whole world over for teachers true,
And from the folks that crowd life's land, well I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate me when I come to take my pup back home again.
I fancied that I heard them say "Dear Lord thy will be done",
For all the joys this pup will bring, the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness, we'll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we've known forever stay.

But should you call him back, much sooner than we've planned,
we'll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand.
If, by our love, we've managed, your wishes to achieve,
In memory of him we loved, to help us while we grieve,
When our faithful friend departs this world of strife,
We'll have yet another Terrier to love him all his life.

So sorry. I lost my lab/ german shepherd mix, Jake last year to a brain tumor. He was the most loyal and loving i ever had. Very intelligent. I cried like a baby i missed him so bad. God saw fit to send us a German Shorthair, Luke last summer and he is amazingly intelligent and loving too! He also has won my heart and eased the pain so much. My advice is to not try to replace your buddy by looking for another. Be patient and let it happen naturally. God will send you the perfect one!

So sorry to hear this. We lost our 161/2 year old Westie 2 years ago and it still pains me. We cherish her memory as I know you will cherish yours.

Had an 18 year old terrier myself that I grew up with. The hardest part was watching her health decline. She had a hard time getting around, but occasionally, out of nowhere, her younger self would take over and have a sprinting fit.

I miss that dog. One of the best companions I've ever had :)

I so understand. I lost my spaniel many years ago after 13 yes. There were times I thought I could still hear his nails on our camper floor at the lake. I now have a 10 yr old shepherd/husky that is beautiful and so smart but she has hip issues and I see her declining each week. I know soon it will be quicker and I'll have an awful decision to make. They love us unconditionally.

Years ago, my son walked in the door with a mutt that I

Mar 13, 2015, 5:45 AM

jokingly called a hairy rat. Yet, I allowed him to keep the mixed terrier he had selected from a shelter.

When asked the dog's name, my son said, "I'm gonna call her 'Terri.'" To which I replied, "We're not going to name that thing after our best friend's wife....We'll call her 'Miss Backout!'"

When my son asked why, I said, "Because the first time that critter messes on my carpet, she's going BACK-OUT the door!" And so she was named and so she lived for 11 years. I miss her.

Very sorry for your loss. We have always had basset hounds after long and comfortable lives we lost 2 in the past 2 years. Got one still with us. After some time I'm sure we will adopt another. Better days ahead for you.
